what does this bill mean?

House mate who paid the bills is moving out and I've got this bill through saying we owe £9.67. What does the £516.76 credit mean?

Can't post link being a new member so I'll write what the bill looks like.
Balance brought forward £289.90

What you've paid since your last bill £516.76 credit

What you have been charged for from 01 April 2015 to 12 Feb 2016 £236.53

Amount to pay now £9.67

Its an unmetered bill. Cheers.

What the bill is saying is that at last billing you owed £289.90

Since then you have used an additional £236.53

(This make a total of £526.43)

But since the last bill you have made payments totalling £516.76 (Maybe you paid a lump sum towards the last bill, and/or probably pay monthly Direct Debits)

    Therefore you now owe £9.67.
