bathroom pull cord light switch doesn't work.

So, last night my Pull Cord switch got stuck and the light remained on all night.
so I went out today to Wickets and brought a replacement Pull Cord.
I unconnected the old switch and replaced with new, putting the L2 (Red) and L1 (black) in the correct places as normal. the earth was screwed into the fitted box.... so, no light????.
went back to Wickets and told them their unit was faulty, and installed a new one, still nothing? .
I checked the bulbs to see if they had blown, and they still work fine.
so now I'm stuck, I have no idea why this new Pull Cord isn't working?. .

one thing that I thought was to change the Earth which is inside the fitted box, to the actual unit next to the L1 and L2 connections, but that shouldn't make a difference right?.
they are all normally the same, 6amp 2 way switched are pretty much the norm.0 -
If your old switch was one-way and you have bought and are trying to fit a two-way, you need to connect the wires to Common and L1 assuming you have Common, L1 & L2. If your old switch was two-way there should be three wires. The earth should only be connected to an earth point.0

old switch was 2 way and 6amps, just like the replacement I brought.
the only thing I could try as I said above is to take the Earth which is connected to the casing, and connect it to the L1/L2 module and see if that works.
I may even try to buy a another unit at Screw fix, something tells me that this Wickets one just isn't any good.0 -

No.
One wire to COM and other to L1
Do not put earth into any of these! it goes to dedicated earth point on box!The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
COM?....... please explain.
that's no how the previous connection was, all I have done is copied how is was wired before.
as I said, Black goes to L1 and Red goes to L2....0 -
Thanks tried that and it worked.0

Make sure the wiring is to COM and other to L1
with earth wire to the separate connection marked Earth, checking all connections are connected to the bare wire. not the insulationThere are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0 -
Hi,
I'm confused,
so you bought a new switch, the same as your old switch, and wired it the same as your old switch?
It didn't work, so you took it back as faulty, wired up the replacement switch which still didn't work, 'something tells me that this Wickets one just isn't any good.' and you were about to try ScrewFix.
Then you took Hasbeen's advice, andThanks tried that and it worked.
So, where did you go wrong, will you go back to Wickets and explain.0 -
