He's aging badly for 280

So he has a room in his parents house as his constituency home - the article seems to be silent on his arrangements whilst in London. Presumably just renting a London flat on expenses where he probably spends 90% of his time.0
-
seems he was a primary school teacher until May 2015
and it appears he hasn't been able to save £90,000 in the last 8 months to put down as a deposit in London0 -
What do you guys have against saving money?0

If I could say that my parents' spare room in Stockport was my main residence and then my employer would pay me £20k a year tax free to pay the rent on a flat in London then I think I would probably refrain from buying even if I had £90k in the bank.
Clearly on £77kpa he could afford to buy at least a flat in Stockport very easily. However, if he did that he would have to pay the mortgage. His dilemma is that if he doesn't maintain a constituency home he cannot claim expenses to pay for a second home in London and he would have to pay for the London property himself.
A cynic might suggest that it might be interesting to see how many nights a year he spends at his "main residence".
Perhaps this is all within the "spirit" of the rules and he lives out of a travelodge in London 3 nights a week and spends the majority of his time posting on MSE about how house prices are going to crash from his parents' spare bedroom.0 -

Only man babies save money, real men blow all their income on heroin, and inject it straight into their eye (with a dirty rusty needle).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I don't see what's wrong with people living at their parents - at least they're not occupying valuable rental space.
And it's very MSE. No point giving a landlord the cash if there's no need to. You can't save if you're renting.0 -

To fully understand how the OP ticks, you really need to read this thread.

Yes - and because he only earns £65,000 he would probably only get a £260,000 mortgage as well.
Perhaps he could purchase this delightful place in Barking for £250,000.

When you see that place costs £250k you sort of see the problem.0 -
