Late online refund resulting in negative mark on credit file?

Hi MS Forum members
I am writing with regards to an online order blunder with Debenhams. I returned a large order a few days after it was delivered and the multiple items were refunded in dribs and drabs. I didnt make payment to the card as I had credit on the card to cover what I kept. Some items weren't refunded and, with the order being placed on a storecard, I was charged interest and a holding fee. If everything had been refunded correctly, I would have been in credit. I managed to get the interest and hold fee refunded, as well as the items that hadn't been refunded. I am now worried that this will mark my credit file, a great concern as, within the next year I hope to be applying for mortgages.
Debenhams said that, unless I know a negative mark has been placed on my credit file, they won't do anything further. Is this right, as it was due to their refund process that I may have a negative mark? Also, I am scared that by checking my credit file, I'll leave a mark. I am not sure how to take this further to ensure that a negative mark is removed from my file, as well as to complain about Debenhams?! Help please!! Many thanks

YOU checking YOUR credit file does not leave a negative mark.

What more do you actually want Debenhams to do? They have sorted out the delayed refunds, refunded the interest and have refunded the holding fee as a goodwill gesture. You have not been charged a late payment fee. Debenhams said that they will not do anything further unless you know a 'negative mark' has been placed on your credit file because they know that no such mark has been placed.
It would appear that you want Debenhams to PROVE that they have not placed this 'negative mark'. How?
What type of 'negative mark' do you imagine has been placed?
I have been trying to work out a worst case scenario in terms of 'negative marks' but from what you have said in your OP I can't see that there can possibly be any.
You state:
I didnt make payment to the card as I had credit on the card to cover what I kept.
If everything had been refunded correctly, I would have been in credit.
SCENARIO 1
Items purchased during month A.
Billed on statement dated 1st of Month B.
Expected refunds not processed during the course of month B.
I didnt make payment to the card as I had credit on the card to cover what I kept.
Either the account was in credit at the statement date and therefore no minimum payment was due or a payment to the account was in fact made during the statement period
Noticed on statement dated 1st of Month C
OP calls Debenhams. Matter sorted out, Interest refunded. Account now in credit.
If everything had been refunded correctly, I would have been in credit.
SCENARIO 2
Statement issued 1st Month A
Items purchased during the course of month A.
OP did not make payment of statement dated 1st Month A.
Expected refunds not processed during the course of month A
I didnt make payment to the card as I had credit on the card to cover what I kept.
Again, either the account was in credit at the statement date and therefore no minimum payment was due or a payment to the account was in fact made during the statement period
Statement issued 1st Month B
OP notices refunds not applied and statement has debit balance.
OP calls Debenhams. Matter sorted out, Interest refunded. Account now in credit.
If everything had been refunded correctly, I would have been in credit.0
