For me it would have to be the dream trip to the Antarctic and would be worth every single penny.

Please - the boat I planned to go on sank but I want to find another and add in southern Patagonia.

If you can afford it, do it! You only live once and you can't take it with you.

Vfm - go for it. if you can afford it - and it seems you can, then do NOT deny yourself the fulfilment of a 'dream'.
I had a similar conversation with my Sil a couple of days back. she chose to spend a considerable amount of her savings on a hip operation. she could have had the same op on the NHS - but (and I agree totally with her), this way she will have the operation and will recover while relatively young enough to extend her working life. She is a self employed hairdresser and loves it. but the pain she suffers makes work a misery and limits her enjoyment of life.
I am sure she too, would be the first to say 'Do it'!
  • Oooh, what’s the experience?

We ummed and ahhed over spending a similar amount on a holiday last year and it was so much more than I had imagined, absolutely incredible!

When faced with a big decision, I take a ‘what would I regret most’ or ‘what would I be most glad I’d done’ when lying on my death bed, depending on the decision… And when it comes to holidays, my experience is that the memories and experiences are much more precious and meaningful than I ever anticipate so if your experience would already be the thing you’d be most glad you’d done (compared to using the money for everyday expenses), imagine how much more glad you’ll be when you’ve done it! :D

At this very moment we are in the middle of a months holiday in New Zealand. We saved for over a year, and are having a fantastic time. Am I sat here wishing we had stayed home and kept all the money for bills? Hell no!!!!
If its something you always wanted to do-do it, now!:j:j:j

I would agree if its something you can afford and its a great opportunity to fulfill an ambition they go for it You are a long time dead Carpe Diem etc.
I went to the US on a touring holiday with my oldest friend back in 2007 we had an amazing 'Thelma and Louise' trip (two little old women in a car racketing around the north east coast for three weeks

It was amazing and I loved every minute. The week after I came home I went for a mammogram and discovered I had breast cancer
I had a mastectomy and a years chemo and r/therapy,In all I had five operations and have had a full reconstruction now. I was so glad I did my US trip when I did as I had lots of good memories to get me through

Thankfully I have been clear since, and all operations and treatments are finished But I wouldn't have missed my trip for anything

I value every day I get up and am able to say I have beaten the cancer So grab every day and use it the best way you can as you never know whats just around the corner.

I lead a very busy life now and am out and about most days

OK my joints are a bit clapped out and I'll never dance the night away as I once did but I believe in grabbing life by the throat and making the most of it

So go for it and enjoy every experience you can.Health not wealth is the most important thing for everyone
