creditcard problem

I have a question on a credit card my statement due date for monies to be paid to the credit card is the 21st of the month. So as a customer i would rightly assume I must make a payment prior to this date as it's a due date.So am I right in assuming payment after this date would go on to the next statement ?
I am asking as i made a payment on the 23rd and it reached the company on the 24th (which they say they produced a statement on the 24th) and they included the 23rd payment to that month.I would rightly assume if you made a payment after the due date 21st it would be added to the next months statement.

If it appeared on the statement produced on the 24th, then it would apply to the period before. Payments for the following period would need to be made after the statement is produced.0

You assume wrong you would have had to make the payment after the statement issue date to be included in the next month not the payment due date.0

So what's the point of a due date if you can send money thereafter that would be credited to that statement.....and yet still be whacked with a late fee. I still don't think it's right money paid after the due date to a customer's thinking one would assume after the due date money would be credited to the next statement. They have refunded a late payment fee but I'm still fighting it as the money paid on the 23rd i would of assumed would of been credited to the month after.......0

You need to separate payment due date from statement date . You have to have it paid by the 21st but your statement is not issued until 24th. The difference in these dates does not give you a window of opportunity to pay late it is for the banks processes.
In my previous comment I had assumed you had made an extra payment. They may have refunded the late payment fee as a goodwill gesture but they won't do that every time.
You need to set up a direct debit to pay at least the minimum every month so that you're not late again.0 -
i did pay extra £300 but because it was after the due date of the statement but before the statement issue date......which I did not calculate on I assume the £300 would be put on the following months statement....I have an impeccable record with them and now one late payment which I am furious about,As I assumed it would go with me rather than against me.
No direct debit I pay £ every week without fail.
If you take the statement date and the next due date you have roughly only 3 wks to make the next payment......talk about timing.0 -
So you didn't pay by the 21st though so your payment was late. Your history with them means nothing.
It's your responsibility to pay on time thankfully they have removed the late payment fee but they won't do it again we'll certainly not within the next 12mths anyway.
No point getting wound up about it your not a human just a number on a list and the only person getting upset about it is you. Just learn the lesson and move on.0 -
I asked the bank what was going on and they said the due date is the 21st the statement gets made up on the 24th and the statement date is the 26th.for a non technical person I still think any payment after the due date should be on the following statement.maybe it's me but I'm fighting the late payment charge (which was refunded ) as that will show on my credit file as a missed payment when I feel I made a extra payment in good faith for the following month only for it to turn up the previous statement ahh well you live and learn.0

no lynz my payment was fine for the previous december statement but the extra payment I made was put onto december statement instead of jan which I thought it should of been thus even with my regular weekly payments ment I was late for jan due date statement thinking the extra I made in december would of been put onto this jan statement.0

Correct lynz68.
I have a direct debit set up at for the minimum payment every month.
I also setup a extra direct payment via my pay bill facility for a payment to go out of my bank account set for about 1 day before the payment due date as written on the statement. I do this as the payment will go by Fastpay bank system.
Good thing about doing this you can change the value of the extra payment up or down as per your finances that period.
There has always been to my memory, in about 35 year + of having a credit card, there being a period between the payment due date and the issuing date of the statement.
You have got to give the processing centre time to process all the payments they receive. Don't forget it could be in the millions and you can only do so many calculations over a certain microsecond , plus a quality check on those payments/statements. It all adds up.
The main problem here is the OP not understanding 'the rules' and not getting their act together. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -
My credit card payment date is the 9th and statement date is 15th.
Any additional payment between the 9th and 15th is not offset against the minimum payment required on the following months statement, it simply reduces the balance.0
