That's all family history is really .... a bunch of bits and bobs that can only fit in one way - but you also have to hunt down the bits and bobs.... and some will never be found ....

<<Grumble grumble>> Too many programmes we want to watch /record all on at the same time <<grumble grumble>>
Thanks anyway! I'm sure it will be on again if we're patient in any case
ETA We've been out every day but not had any of the new £1 coins yet.
So we switched to virgin - rude not to as BT had given us a 'get out of your contract for free' card with their inflation busting price rise and virgin only wanted 10.82 month all in for a year.
As part of the virgin offer we were due some sort of tv box that lets you watch one channel whilst recording 6 others at the same time. The installer guy asked me where I wanted the box - I said the house was cabled so we would just hook it up to whichever TV we decided woudl be most useful and shuffle our other boxes around. He had to explain a couple of times that Virgin still run on old technology and that they have to run their own cable to the box it is not IP lan/wireless enabled - what century are they working in. So our front room which is the study/diner now has a shiny TV box in it - no TV and probably never will have but the package would have cost more without 'tv'.
[The other remarkable thing is how big the box is - tv boxes are usually less than 10cm by 10cm by 3cm or smaller (some fit on a usb stick) in my experience - this one is huge like an old VCR or the original DVD players. All our boxes just sort of hang down / balance hidden behind the wall mounted TVs - this one would need some sort of 80s style unit to sit on....]I think....0 -
We've got a 6 channel TiVo box coming for free, thanks to the virgin red app.

We're moving in the opposite direction, away from cable and giving up the TiVo. We've got a roof aerial and a freeview box and now we've a BT line and broadband. Can't jusify the expense of cable any more. We first got it when there were competing satellite companies and cable gave you them both. Now we've realised we only watch a few channels and the least said about the rest of them, the better. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Yep - start thinking now about where you want some beautiful thick coax run from wherever virgin come into your house (stop sniggering pastures) all the way to within hdmi reach of your tv......
Went to renew my tv license which expired yesterday and it costs more than on the renewal letter - I guess the price went up today? Seems to me as my renewal is from yesterday I should pay the price from yesterday and if they want to charge me today's price then the licence should run from today for 12 months not from yesterday.....I think....0 -

You're right, unless there's something in the small print.
Might be worth a letter to your MP, as that does seem a bit unfair.
Except if.......... let's assume the licence expired at midnight on Friday. You went to renew it on the Saturday, let's say when the P.O. opened at 9.00am. Technically, you were without a licence for 9 hours when you should have had one, so your 'new' contract is from Saturday, so you pay the new price. Additionally, that loss of one day on your new licence could be construed as a fine for those missing hours!
Reminds me of passports. You have a ten-year passport, but in fact it is only a 9.5 year passport, as many countries say there should be at least 6 months unexpired left on it. So effectively, you can't use your passport in the last six months of its term.
On that basis, if you have 7 ten-year terms during a lifetime (age 10-80), you will have to have 8 passports instead of 7, as you need to renew it before the last six months each time, in principle.
Has anyone ever found that they have been stranded in a foreign country for 6 months? (Excluding kidnappings and lawful imprisonment).(I just lurve spiders!)

I traveled to Paris on Eurostar using an expired passport. It was noticed on the way back, but the officer just waved me onto the train anyway. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Well, I can understand them wanting to get rid of you,, but what did they say when you got to England?
Was that before 11/9? They were much more forgiving, then. Oh the days when you could fly from London to Edinburgh without a passport! sigh(I just lurve spiders!)
