    Posh alert!!

This happens a LOT, but is denied by many people. Those people who have seen it happen and know either stay quiet as they benefitted, or they speak out and are shot down saying they were just obviously not as good as the other candidate.

It's an argument you can never win as people will either not speak out, or have not been there so refuse to admit it occurs.
Company I work for gets this when bidding for contracts where the manpower for the bid will cost several k or even 10s of k but there is an 'incumbent' who is 95% sure to win the work anyway.
    I think....

Didn't get that job. I'm a bit gutted. She said that it went to the wire between me and the other candidate, just that she had 10 yrs experience. She said if it falls through with her then she'll call me, or if they take on a big client in the next few months and need more staff she'll give me a call before advertising the position. So that's nice.

In a way it saves me having to buy a car or a bike or something and all that. But still. Never mind.

A good will gesture of 2x£30 would've been nice..... is probably what you thought as you put the phone down and gave it two fingers.

Sometimes these things are meant to be.

DS2 was put on a maybe list for a job and while they were dilly-dallying he secured a much better job. He took delight on telling the first firm that they were on his maybe list if his new job didnt work out.

Sorry you didn't get it Mas, but it did sound as if the travel costs would have been very high.

And there's an old saying, something like "What's meant for you won't go by you". I think it's very true.

Sorry to hear that. Encouraging to know that you did so well - if you could impress that employer then you can impress another one. Sending hugs:

Out of interest, where does your username derive from?

You posted this in reply to a post of mine. Was that intentional, or a mistake? Do you want to know about his username or mine? I suspect his, but if it's mine, then... (longterm NP who already know this feel free to skip the next paragraph)

Lydia was a name I shortlisted for DD - I like the sound, I like where it falls on what I think of as the spectrum between very fluffy and ultrafeminine at one end to plain and utilitarian at the other, and there's a strong independent female role model of the name in the New Testament. It was vetoed by LNE, who knew a family with an unprepossessing daughter called Lydia. We agreed on the other of my two favourite shortlisted names for DD and I am more than happy with that, but Lydia stuck in my mind as a name I had decided I liked. When I first started posting on a different forum (in my pre-MSE days) I made up a username, but found I didn't like having people refer to me as "he" so decided to switch to an obviously female one, and Lydia came to mind as a female name that I already felt some affinity with. Having used Lydia on that forum, I now have it as my standard screen name for any forum I join, with initials and/or numbers on the end depending on what usernames have already been taken.

    Love it. :D
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Oh sorry, Lydia! Yes it was a mistake! Silly me!

Look at the time I posted it! I'd woken up and couldn't get back to sleep but was obviously still woolly! :rotfl:

Yes, I think you told me about your name before, a while back, though. I really like it, and I have it as a username on a very different website! :D

I was asking Masomnia about his username. It's very unusual.

I shall go and edit that post forthwith! ;)
