LOL.
Did you manage to make use of that case of Spumante you mistakenly ordered?0 -
Another pretty much non-drinker here as I don't get on well with the stuff and am the driver. Am also married to an alcoholic so one of us needs to be sober all the time, not just some of the time!Spend less now, work less later.0

We're planning to drive up to Sheringham on Christmas Day. It's one of the best days in the year for driving. Between 12 and 2, the roads are virtually clear of traffic. Bah! Humbug! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

It used to be like that for our journey to mum and dad's (a far shorter distance than going to Sherringham!) but in recent years, we have noticed there are far more cars on the road than there used to be and I even got caught in a mini traffic jam last year.
Just under two weeks until Josh is home but we have to wait until Christmas eve for James...I'm looking forward to having them home but me and youngest are not looking forward to the increased noise levels! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
No idea what I will eat on Xmas Day, I wander over to M&S around about 2 on Xmas Eve and decide what to buy then. They always ahve plenty left - I'll be in trouble if they change their policy!.
Many years ago, I asked one of the drivers to get me some champagen in to give to customers at Xmas, he came back with several crates.....each bottle bearing the legend,' sans alcool.....' I think we washed the trucks with it or soemthing:rotfl:0 -
We're planning to drive
Why go that date?
When/where possible I've always preferred to travel the evening before, so I can wake up in the right place, rather than having to get up and then do the drive. That'd me even more true on that date.
When working you get 2 days off - so there were a number of years when I've finished work on Xmas Eve at 6pm, then driven 350 miles to my parents' house.... returning on Boxing Day evening.0 -
It would be lovely if everyone got two days off. Just Christmas Day here, people need the shops open after all.Spend less now, work less later.0

Our youngest son is coming home from uni on 22 Dec, so we'll have a few days at home together, then go to Sheringham. Saturday night (the 24th) is the first night of Chanukah, so we'll celebrate that at home with the family. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

IMO, a slight correction required.
People need the shops open for the same reason as they need to buy about 4 times as much food as they normally would to cover the same time period - to see them in the supermarkets, even this early, anyone would think that there was a famine on its way.0 -
...anyone would think that there was a famine on its way.
I'm staggered at how much I see some people buy.
One thing that annoys me is when I fancy a curry and I'm there with my "ready meal curry and rice" .... and the people behind me are there shopping for four and have: 4 curries, 4 rices, an assortment of other curry/side dishes, bhajis, samosas, bombay potatoes ..... and 2-3 bottles of wine. Then plonked on top is a massive juicy dessert/pie.
I do wish I could eat more and had more of a variety available.
One of those "Eat Well for Less" type of programs in the last 3-5 weeks had a family who spent about £75 on a takeaway (twice a week too) and it was just parents and 3 kids. I was staggered at the list of what they'd bought, it was HUGE.
Just looked it up, they had:
Two vegetable spring rolls - £8.20
Two vegetarian crispy seaweed - £8.60
Whole crispy aromatic duck with hoisin sauce - £24.50
Shredded crispy beef (no chilli) - £5
Sweet and sour Hong Kong style chicken - £4.70
Lamb with ginger and spring onion - £5
Two egg fried rice - £5
One boiled rice - £2
Chow mein with beansprouts - £3.50
Two chicken crispy chow mein - £8.60
Total - £75.10

The prices per item are very cheap ... but if they'd left it to me to order there'd have just been the beef, chicken, lamb dishes and the chow mein with beansprouts and I'd have cooked white rice. Total cost £18.20 - and that'd have been a 4x a year treat!0
