Hence have got behind with the thread.

Nooo! You must not let that happen. Look at my example and be warned - it will take you hours to catch up. :(

"Rice pudding. Tinned? I bought a 15p tin, I like rice pudding."

I like the idea of rice pudding, and I found some Ambrosia tinned rice at the back of the cupboard. It was yellowish, so I thought it had gone off and threw it away. I bought a new tin, and it was the same colour, so that's intentional apparently. It had a mushy texture, and it didn't taste of anything. So, I think it must be an acquired taste, like Marmite.

Most people who like it (and I'm one of them) like it with something. PN has suggested jam, which I like too, but I also like it with cinnamon.
Had a "baby jiggler" behind me in the queue... they drive me nuts. They've got a newish baby and are holding it up and jiggling it .... and if you try to get some distance between you and them, they move forward too! Had to really bite my tongue as it brings out the 'tourettes' in me, which is a side-behaviour of feeling "trapped and unable to escape". The words "Will you just F*** off with your sticky brat so close to me......" whizz through the mind :)

Which do you hate more - a baby being jiggled, or a baby screaming? Because that's why parents jiggle babies - because it enables the parent to delay the screaming for quite a long time, in many instances.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Yes. I knew that much, but as I'm not "interested" in audio I hadn't got as far as researching the frequency range and how to compare that to speaker specs to choose the right ones (preferably under £5).

That's about my level of knowledge and interest. Hence why I didn't put any more detail in my suggestion. ;)

I'm about, although more a lurker than a prolific poster these days. Good to hear from you though, and I do hope all is well with you.

Us unconventionals and our bizarre house buying!

I've had the 2 toilets plastered. I then tried putting skirting boards in myself.
After trying for 2 days and damaging the plaster that was freshly done, I realised that skirting boards wasn't for me, and in future, I am likely to tile to the floor.

Have decided to wallpaper the 2 toilets, then lino the floor to try to create warmth in them.

Next job will be the radiators hopefully. Need to contact my plumber friend, but will give him a week first.

For warmth in bathrooms and toilets, I recommend cork tiles. You can get ones that have an everything-proof coating to make them easy to clean, and they feel lovely under bare feet as well as keeping the room insulated a bit. If I ever redo either of the bathrooms here, I'll be having them, but I'm not at the point of disliking them enough to spend money on anything major - my bathroom improvements are more along the lines of replacing the rusty shower caddy and thinking about getting a new mixer tap for the basin.

Helpful Builder has been here again today. The tinkering he did with my bedroom radiator over the weekend has successfully stopped it leaking - the carpet in that corner is now dry, and the hot water cylinder's pressure gauge is staying where it ought to be. He's also replaced the rusty shower caddy that looked rather like this when I had it put in 5 years ago:

    31FIUZN8f7L.jpg

with one of these, which is made of aluminium so can't go rusty:

    v2-hensych-bathroom-wall-storage-shelves-bath-corner-rack-wall-%7CcHpoYUJyUUdjRm1LS3B3c1dsTkRaZG9tVXl4OTRrbGxZbjROU1JuNTJFR2c3VEJJcHNIZmV4dDNCRFVQc0l2TE5Cc0ZvaExQV3dRTy83c3g5SVZvUlE9PQ==

He fixed the place where my curtain rail was coming adrift from the wall, and put up the two little shelves that I bought on Saturday and DD and I varnished yesterday. They are by the head of my bed so I can have somewhere to put things without anything obstructing the under-bed drawers. :)

In other news I've found out that doing Probate is relatively simple and certainly not worth using a Solicitor unless the Estate is particularly complicated.

On the other hand, if you find yourself being executor of an insolvent estate with no death certificate, and just happen to have a brother who is a probate solicitor and will do it for free... :)
I'll still be popping in from time to time, although it's just not the same place since Gen got red carded.

I miss him too. Nice to see you, though, trev. :hello: Do post sometimes as well as lurking.

Lovely to see you, Lydia :j I'm so glad your DD has been able to part with some "stuff" :)

Lovely to see you too, ivyleaf. Yes, it's great that DD is finally making enough progress for the house to start being a little easier to live in. :)

    Halloween? Not in this house!

Nothing here either. My evening's been the builder's visit, setting a mock exam paper, catching up on the NPT and a pile of marking that I haven't started yet. DD had a friend round earlier and was last seen wrestling with German homework, while DS is deep in revision for his GCSE mocks.

Woohoo! I am finally caught up now. :D

WE didn't put anything out - just didn't have the time / energy. Feel a bit guilty as our kids did 'round the block' - luckily with DDs football, time was limited so the 'candy' haul is not as bad as previous years.

There was still a mad rush to get dinner cooked and eaten whilst also disassembling a table we had sold on facebook and doing DD1's week worth of learning and revising separating mixtures and solutions. We had to get the scales out, fill a cup to beginning and then add salt to see the mass increase but the volume remain the same. DD1 also suggested we set up a still to show how to separate ethanol from a alcohol/water mixture but I ruled that one out.

Chromatography - when I was at school we put a drop of ink in the centre of a round filter paper, now apparently you stand a strip of paper in a solution - I guess that is progress for you. The textbook did not explain why the distance travelled of the different pigments was a function of their solubility - over to you Lydia (although thinking about it now I suspect I can make an educated guess)/

Your guess is probably at least as good as mine. That's chemistry. One of the advantages of teaching in the private sector is that I only have to teach my own subject, and chemistry isn't it! :o

My parents had got loads of sweets in but hadn't realised they needed to put some kind of visible sign outside their house to show they were ok with trick or treaters going there, so I made one for them.

Unfortunately, when it got dark you couldn't see what the sign said anymore and people were assuming it was a standard don't want poster so I had to resort to standing outside and telling the groups it was ok to knock....dad's face was a picture when all the kids started arriving, he loves getting involved in things like that, makes him feel young again.

Re the blotter and the strip, I did both at school. probably because I opted for the individual sciences at 'O' Level instead of just the core general science. Somehow I am the proud owner of a Chemistry 'O' level without actually knowing much about Chemistry....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Pyxis, you should watch "The Prestige" or some old episodes of "The Wild, Wild West".

    Okey-dokey! :)

Edit...just watched the trailer of The Prestige......yes, it looks good! Will get it.

Edit edit.... Hmm, not sure about the Wild Wild West....it may be too much of a Western. It's jolly old, isn't it! :rotfl:
I take it those episodes were never televised in the UK? I don't remember the programme at all.
