I did set fire to the toaster recently. It gave a lot pop, and the fuse blew. I dismantled the toaster and cleaned it thoroughly, replaced the fuse, and it all works again. Hooray for Dualit!I think....0

I ordered wine for tonight's passover dinner from Virgin Wines. Big mistake. They promise big and (literally) don't deliver. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Was that the fuse in the plug? I did similar recently but only tried the plug fuse with no success so splashed out a whole fiver on a new toaster.
Yes, the plug fuse. It tripped the ring main, too.
I think there are two MSE strategies: buy very cheap, and replace fairly frequently, or splash out a small fortune for Dualit.
We were going through a toaster every year until I bought Dualit roughly 15 years ago. The ones we were burning out yearly were more like £10-20 than £5, as we went for 4-slice toasters because of the number of people in the house. No reliance should be placed on the above! As a "regular person who doesn't have a religion as such but would tick the Christian box on a regular stats form just because I'm British and it's kind of what we as a country are, so to speak" .... we've never done anything for passover - didn't even know people did, to be honest.
What ya doin?
Was it the special dinner the missus thought you could prepare? Maybe you could offer to make the toast to go with the starter. Show willing. She'll like that.
Jesus would forgive Branson, but I don't aspire to Jesus's level of holiness, so Branson can ..... as far as I am concerned.
Somebody will hopefully explain, but I can't see toast being welcomed this evening. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

However, out of intrigue/interest I did pick up a pack of those toaster bags .... and I got to the stage of taking one out of the box to look at it (obviously a bag in a toaster is full of phobia/fear factors) - and toaster bags are too large to use in £5 toasters.
In a perfect world I'd have a 2-slot, long-slot, wide/variable slot toaster capable of toasting thick/thin things and long things like naan breads. But as they cost an arm/leg it won't happen.
How can they possibly make a toaster for £5? The world's gone bonkers. People are out of work in this country, whilst people in other countries work for almost nothing, making trash that we use for a while then discard. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Whack on a small extension then sell it for 50% more a year later!
I complete on my move today. If I wanted to sell it it would make (easily) 10% more than I offered, all in the space of 4 months! It's absolute madness here in parts of the SE. Hardly a rational or stable market.
That's nuts. It's like it's 2001 all over again.
I do wonder what will happen as Chinese and oil money gets taken out of the top end of the market. It's not that long ago that I had a retirement plan to sell.a family house in the SE and move into a nice one/two bed flat in The City once the kids had beggured off but now that seems ludicrous.

I never knew Virgin sold kosher wines. I guess a lot of people did know and that is why they ran out.
DS2 brought GF to our passover dinner tonight. Always interesting to see how someone views it for the first time. It did go very well, her interest in it meant by boys got more involved than usual. She was most impressed with the fruit saled that copied this idea.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My parents bought me a cheapo toaster about 3 years ago and it is going well...however that could be because I have only used it about 6 times as it is a very small one and can only take very small slices! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

PasturesNew wrote: »I use my toaster daily, sometimes 2-3x a day. It is 'very small'. I buy the 36p loaves and the bread fits, but I did 'treat' myself a few months ago to a 49p loaf with the name of Toastie, indicating it was squarer bread I think, ideal for toasting as the shape was consistent. I had to cut the end off to get it to fit in.
What did you do with the cut off ends?
