I'm so suggestible!
Now I fancy a coffee and a bacon sarnie, even though I won't eat pork products due to being almost (but not quite yet) a vegetarian and having given up pork some time ago, due to pigs being quite intelligent.
I could have a rare coffee, though, and raid the fridge for a bacon sarnie substitute!
DS doesn't eat mammals, although he does eat both fish and poultry. He said bacon was the hardest thing to give up.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Monty Python.
Medieval times. A knight going through the woods on a non-existant horse is stopped by an attacking knight.
Attacker chops off arms/legs and the one losing them keeps declaring "tis but a flesh wound".
Personally I preferred "It's only a flesh wound"
That's what I intended/meant. Did I get it wrong?
I'm not good at recalling details of anything in film.0 -

Hehe, we are the knights who say "Ni"

That was The Black Knight, earlier in the film then the Knights Who Say Ni..
He was defending the "bridge", a plank over a small stream. After Arthur had chopped off all his arms/legs, and his body IIRC, the battle was declared a draw0 -

I'd forgotten about that detail - weren't each of them followed by their servants, banging coconut shells together to simulate the (non-existent) hooves?0 -
Percy I'm so very sorry to hear your news. I'm very glad though that you have your little boy to help you through it xx0

Dear Percy, so very very sorry to hear your devastating news. I can't even begin to imagine how awful you must be feeling. I'm speechless really, just very sad for you and your family. Maggie0

Just heard on the news that there have been three other major high-rise fires in the last few years, in France, Melbourne and Dubai, and all involving fire spreading via the cladding.
The Grenfell Tower one appears to have been the worst, though.
Talking of cladding, has anyone else noticed a fashion for cladding existing houses in a sort of shiplap? I don't know what it's made of, although it looks like painted wood, or why it's used; is it cosmetic, or does it serve an insulatory function? If the latter, it is only applied to the first floor, and on houses with cavity walls, so I'm not sure how effective it would be.(I just lurve spiders!)

I had to watch the telly my dad/mum chose to watch ... and didn't have my own telly until I was about 30.
I just googled it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Knight_(Monty_Python)
1975. There's no way dad would've watched it, it's too "complex and bizarre" for him to have become interested as he'd have "not seen the point" of it.
Mum/dad were probably watching Benny Hill or Coronation Street.
Ah, but then it wasn't on the telly for some years.
So I missed it all ....
I grew up in that era. Comedy was very predictable and series like Do Not Adjust Your Set and Monty Python were a breath of fresh air. A bit like like the Goons or Spike Milligan's Q series.
Not just funny but bizarre as well, and somehow that made it even funnier. A difficult feat to pull off. Not much like that going on now. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
