    I get that. Surely the OP and wife must have discussed the share selling and savings plan redemption prior to buying the house?

    I am asking why the wife is "in for a shock" if the family's finances have been straightforward, honest and open.


    Possibly, yes :)

    I assume that his wife is making out that he had been hiding money away, but only once things started turning sour - based on the OP.

    No she is in for a shock because I put everything I had into this house and yet she still thinks there is secret cash stashed somewhere.
    When she made me swear on my daughters life there isn't then still said she didn't believe me, that was the moment that she showed her true colours and lost all my respect...
    Oh and she knew about all the shares and saving plan I had to sell (which I had before I met her) so please don't put me on a pedestal with some type of swindler...
