Virgin Media 'secret' pricing?

Funny what you put your mind to when exploited.
Always assumed changing from VM cable would be more expensive as I'd need a new line and no choice not to have one.
I pay VM £42 a month for no contract landline & broadband and they offered me a "deal" at £35.78 a month for no contract BB only given I am about to sell/buy in coming year.
Found Plusnet do this no contract deal:-
Activation fee...........25.00
Router P&P...............6.99
Installation charge...49.99
Sign up total...........81.98
Monthly charge
Unlimited broadband...12.49
Line rental................16.99
Monthly total............29.48
Monthly I'd save £12.50, keep landline, and recoup signup cost after six months and go on saving.
If I went full contract with Plusnet it could be even better, as unlikely to need to cancel in first 6 months:-
Activation fee...........free
Router P&P...............6.99
Installation charge...49.99
Cashback...............-50.00
Sign up total.......... 6.98
Monthly charge:
Unlimited broadband...Free for first yr
Line rental...........16.99
Monthly total.........16.99
Cessation fee £30
Early Cancellation: £17.50 ea month.
If I've calculated correctly, would have to cancel Plusnet contract within first 5 months to be worse off having the contract!
And still be better off if cancellation fees for 6 months than staying with VM on existing package
Their miserly £35.78 "doing our very best for you" deal for no contract BB only looks sick by comparison.
Yes cable is faster but I lived with it slower for years. I didn't ask for superfast. Get nosebleeds at the bill.

Good luck (you'll need it)...
Behave! It's the MSE mantra...ditch and switch. Obviously I read the doom and gloom threads but also loads of positives.
As for price, my all-inclusive calculations show I would start to save money over my existing VM package within six months even with six months remaining cancellation costs with PlusNet.
And I keep the landline.
After seven months I'm saving even on the miserly VM broadband only deal by having a contract with PlusNet.
I can't know what luck I'll need unless I risk all for glory.

I say JUMP, the only way these companies learn is if you vote with your feet.
Funny thing is that since Jan 1st there have been three different offers from Plusnet on their site
18m free broadband
18m at £1 a month
12m free with £50 cashback (£75 cash back via MSE link)
Worth bearing in mind the price after the offer varies on where you live, either £9.99 or £17.49, so the 18m free contract was potentially worth £104.94 less the cashback above.
Virgin seem to be the least competitive company out there because they assume everyone wants fibre, they sold off their BB biz to AOL aka TalkTalk.
I am so glad I do not have one of those eye watering bills, hard enough paying energy bills which have not come down in line with oil price despite going up every time there was a rise in said price.
One other thing, I spoke to Plusnet via chat and they told me that if you take out an 18m contract and move they handle move for free if you stay a further 12m (so they do not even hold you to the 18m and if you decide not to stick with them the max fee is £65.Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0
