Online Estate Agents - Who is best

I need to sell my house which is worth 120k to 125k, im in Scotland if that makes any difference. There has been a few houses sold on my estate in recent years so i have a good idea what my house is worth. I want to use an online estate agent and save a lot of money. Is there a particular few that seem to be the best. Also are there any good popular online lawyers to handle the legal work?

all the best

One tip: make sure to get the bricks & mortar agents round as well to give you a valuation, even if you don't end up using them, just in case you're wrong about how much yours is worth.
  • I'm using housenetwork.co.uk currently and so far i'm impressed.

    I'm also using housenetwork.

We got 3 normal estate agents round first to get the value, then invited Housenetwork round. Took photos & wrote the description, within 2 hours it was live on Rightmove.
All viewers have praised them too about how efficient they were & we've had no problems either.

We've just sold ours, so going through solicitors etc & theyve kept us informed all the way.
  • I've just completed using an online agent. I wouldn't use one again. They make no effort to get you a good offer. A local agent pays for itself and if you end up having a tricky sale they are worth their weight in gold. You get no support from an online agent. For info I used hatched.com.
  • thanks for the replies guys

i will get a couple of estate agents round for an idea of what my house is worth. I also need to get a home report done first because im in Scotland, this is not optional.

I know there is always a risk trying these online agents but i have had rubbish service in the past from regular estate agents and lawyers. So i think its worth paying less and hoping for the best.

ill have a look at house network and keep them in mind, paying at the end of the deal would be most helpful.

Not that Ive ever used an agent but my parents have bought and sold a few times and every time that Purple Bricks advert comes on, we are all flabbergasted as to why anyone would use an agent who has gone out of their way to look like incompetent idiots

We used purple bricks, and it was pretty convenient. The'local expert' was a bit optimistic on the price, but if you know what you want, it's fine.

Booking appointments is a bit of a faff for viewers, but overall it was not a bad experience. I would have used a local estate agent, but none of them were willing to negotiate rates.

Mine was a very standard ex-council house, one of many in the area. In that situation, RightMove was doing all the work.

You'll still need a solicitor well versed in the Scottish buying and selling system.

Many of these online agents are based in Englandshire, and have expanded into Scotland as an afterthought, so tread carefully.

Interesting you say that - I'm thinking about using Purple too... but they did come along with a valuation about £50k higher than a high street EA. Totally ridiculous of course (and certainly not the reason I'm thinking of going with them). I'll be pricing it slightly more conservatively than their suggestion, but do think my flat probably will sell itself quite easily, so really begrudged the idea of paying mega-bucks to a high street outfit....

They've messed up property prices in my block by undervaluing by £20k and sucking people in with low fees. They need stopping if you ask me.
