Dell Extended Warranty

If any of you are considering DELL PC's, you might like to know this:

If you go into the support and services section of their website and look for warranty's, the prices that are quoted are significantly reduced compared to the prices they offer when purchasing a system.

For example: I was offered a 3 year next business day guarauntee with accidental cover for my new Inspiron 6000 notebook. Price £200. Price quoted on the support and service page £44.68 excl VAT.

It was explained to me as an error, there is no possible way I can have it at that price. And that it was so expensive because the online training costs so much. A lot of b*** sh** I know.

After many angry phone calls I got the warranty for £50 incl VAT!

You can find the warranty page here .

Good luck if any of you are brave enough to haggle!!!

    Good luck.

Word of advice, don't let the sales department fob you off and give you other numbers, really dig your heals in!

It is the sales department you need to speak with. They are the only people with the power to do give you discount.

In my battle to get my warranty cheap I spoke to sales, then uk warranty sales, the technical support, then customer service before a nice young gentleman told me to contact my sales advisor directly and if I get no luck with them the demand to speak to management!

Sounds a bit tedious but its worth it for a saving of £150!!!!!!! :T

    Doesn't look like it - I will re-check.

Update - Nope - you need to phone, I've tried 3 sales people & they won't budge - maybe they are aware there is a mis-price so they are holding off til warranty sales come back on-line in the morning.

I don't think Dell's extended next day on-site guarantees are worth it.
I have had occasion to use it twice and each time it took a month to get them to honour the guarantee. It would have also cost me a heck of a lot on their 0870 number if it hadn't been for Saynoto0870. Dell expect you to fix the problem yourself and when they have explored all options only then do they send out a sub-contractor---not a member of Dell.
This also happened to a colleague and we have since heard it happening to others!

You cannot buy the warranty online.

It is not warranty sales you need to contact it is home sales, basically the people you would call regarding a pc or notebook. Warranty sales will not give in to the error.

Keep trying, ask to speak to management. And if you get no luck say you'll take it further, they will eventually give in. I hope haggling works for you all as it did for me!

I've tried home sales.. believe me I'm not fobbed off easily , I've ask for a manager & they've downright refused to put me thorough to one, I've called back and repeated the process..3 times... I find the Indian sales people can be quite rude.. going back to when I bought my desktop 12 months ago, I eventually demanded an Irish sales person and got a lovely guy who was more than helpful. The Indian call centre people called my home without me giving them the number (caller display?) and badgered me as to why I had not placed an order that day.!! I had wanted to order but at the time didn't want to pay inflated prices for a flat panel monitor so wanted a price without.. the guy in Bangalore said I'd be lucky to get £50 off (like he was doing me a favour) - the Irish chappie gave me £250 off without any pressure from me!

So I'd rather not deal with them at all, I think they may be put under a lot of pressure to maximise profits even if it's at the expense of a sale!

I'll give it another bash tommorow, but I think maybe you've been lucky with this one and they''ll sort the website out tommorw.. Keep u posted!

I completely agree with you with regards to your comments on the indian sales people. I have been told on may occasion 'dell don't believe in discounts.'

Another suggestion may be to write an e-mail of complaint to DELL stating the error. I have complained to DELL once before and have never received any feedback or even an apology!

Good luck with your call tomorrow.
