HELP!!!!!!
I recently noticed that pages are slow to load and specifically AVG updates are slow or stop loading. I have tried the web sites mentioned in Toxteth O'grady's thread re slow pcs but it is almost impossible to download software. I have tried uninstalling AVG and now I cant download it, the download stops halfway through after slowing to a snales pace. I think I have picked up a virus but the scans I have been able to do dont show anything.
Any advice would be most appreciated

Does it happen if you boot into safe mode with networking? Look in your task manager (if running XP etc) and see if anything is using the process as there is a well known issue with svchost.exe running at 100% and screwing the processor up.
Where abouts in the country are you? Someone may be able to burn you a few tools onto CD and post it to you.0 -
THanks for your reply PaulK, I live in Warrington0

svchost is listed!
Step 1 just goes to the Microsoft Update web site, which you can also do by clicking --> http://www.update.microsoft.com/
Step 4 isn't very clear, but if you scroll to the bottom of that page the last post explains it.0 -

Is it just downloads that are slow?

Thanks TOG for your response, it is mainly downloads although pages are not loading particularly fast. When downloading initially everything is ok then the speed drops considerably and then stalls altogether.0

What speed is your internet connection supposed to be and what speeds are you actually getting?
