How will a PPI company succeed where you have failed?
Not forgetting the fact that if you've already been rejected, you can't have a second go.0 -
If your complaint was rejected, you will have been sent a letter telling you that you have six months to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
That option is free.
If you have waited more than six months then if the rejection letter was correctly written and there are no exceptional reasons (such as serious illness), you will be too late - and no ambulance chaser will be able to alter that fact.0 -
Hi Daisy! When you say you have failed do you mean that you had claims rejected or that you are struggling to cope / find enough details to pursue a claim yourself? i know it can be a bit overwhelming.
I am going through the process of doing my own claims, I have squeezed as much info as I can from old emails even references and partial references on my credit file. Making a quick call to any companies has got me lots of info too.
If you haven't gotten as far as claiming for yourself its ever so easy, they have dedicated people to case manage. I have made 12 contacts so far and had positive outcomes for 1 of them, only 1 so far has said no as I didn't have PPI with them! The rest are being reviewed.
If you do decide to try yourself I advise to keep a spreadsheet of who you contacted, any names or reference numbers they are willing to give you and the status of each one and any dates / promises. Also make sure you are familiar with the reason(s) as to why you feel it was missold, you may be asked to provide evidence.
If you have already tried and have been rejected I *think* you have 6 months to appeal, so if you have been rejected check the letter and the reason to ensure you have time.
If you do find a company that you have a good experience with do let us know! Best of luck!:staradmin :staradmin Emergency Fund @ £300 Non CCJ Debts x 7 @ £2782/ £4055 PAID! It's not an actual "appeal", it's a referral to an arbitrator in the form of the Financial Ombudsman Service.kittycashcake wrote: »If you have already tried and have been rejected I *think* you have 6 months to appeal, so if you have been rejected check the letter and the reason to ensure you have time.
You are correct that the OP has six months from the date of the original "full and final" rejection by the Bank.
This is a money-saving site, so please don't encourage any promotion of Claims Companies. Even the "best" of them charge for a free complaint process and charge exorbitantly.kittycashcake wrote: »If you do find a company that you have a good experience with do let us know!0 -
Not everyone has the interest or ability to claim themselves and in those circumstances a claim by a company is better than not bothering. The OP didn't ask to be reprimanded for using a company, they asked for advice about which one, should they choose to.
Daisy, please don't be put off, if you feel that one of these companies is the best option in your circumstances or means then best of luck to you. You don't have to justify your decision if you do decide to do so, its no one elses concern.:staradmin :staradmin Emergency Fund @ £300 Non CCJ Debts x 7 @ £2782/ £4055 PAID! There was no criticism or reprimand of the OP in my post. I simply asked you not to encourage her to promote any individual Claim Company here on this site. That could be deemed as advertising and goes against the whole money saving aspect of this forum.kittycashcake wrote: »The OP didn't ask to be reprimanded for using a company, they asked for advice about which one, should they choose to.
Claims Companies charge fully a third (plus VAT) of any redress awarded for basically putting a stamp on an envelope.
The other day a poster appeared pleased that he's been awarded £1500, but had to pay £500+ to the claims company!
They have no unique powers to find out if PPI was paid and rely solely on the customer to provide details of financial institutions that were used.
In addition, the whole point of the MSE advice article about PPI reclaiming is to deny these greedy companies as many customers as possible. The complaint process is simple and free, no one should have to pay a massive chunk of their refund in order to receive it.0 -
I do understand, and I'm hopeful the OP will weigh up the negatives versus the positives.
Sadly some people do not feel they have the skills or confidence to do it themselves, what's easy and convenient for one person is just too much for another. I didn't bother till recently because before then I was too unwell to even try, so I just didn't bother. Now I feel like I can do it.
Hopefully no matter way the OP chooses they will get some £££ in their pocket. Managing directly will be the most lucrative but not necessarily the most do-able.
Of course it could be that they have been declined already which is another battle!:staradmin :staradmin Emergency Fund @ £300 Non CCJ Debts x 7 @ £2782/ £4055 PAID! If their complaint has been declined already then it is not possible to now employ a Claims Company.kittycashcake wrote: »Of course it could be that they have been declined already which is another battle!
If someone employs a CMC to complain again about a rejected claim then the company will charge a fee for wasting their time! Even more money down the pan.
If the OP has indeed been rejected then she needs to refer her case to the Ombudsman, assuming it is within the last six months (as you pointed out). Otherwise, it's game over with or without a CMC.0 -

A CMC does NOTHING that a person cannot do themselves and with equal (or even lower) chance than if you complain direct.
You're falling for and/or promoting the myth of CMCs about PPI complaints being difficult or needing skill or expert knowledge. Your financial details are not in the public domain so you need to find them and tell the CMC for them to complain on your behalf along with providing details about your complaint reasons - in short, you do EVERYTHING whether you complain or use a CMC - all they do is post off the complaint.
Nobody should ever recommend a claims companySam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Absolutely. An article published today saysA CMC does NOTHING that a person cannot do themselves and with equal (or even lower) chance than if you complain direct.
"On average, claims brought to the ombudsman by a claims management company are less likely to be upheld, with only 22 per cent - or 113 - of the 494 cases they brought in 2015 being successful. This compares to cases against advisers in general, which had an uphold rate of 34 per cent in 2015.
A similar pattern was seen in 2014, when 35 per cent of complaints against advisers were upheld, but those brought by claims management companies were only upheld in 24 per cent of cases."0
