S75 claim - flight cancellation?

Hi everyone,

Really hope you can help!

I booked a flight to the US, via London. My flight to London got cancelled due to fog & British Airways would only offer an alternative later flight (not possible as we had things booked in USA) or a refund if I cancelled my entire booking.

I ended up getting a very long bus to London in order to make my flight to the US.

My question is, is there any way I can use a Section 75 claim to get some or any of the costs back?

The difficulty is it was done as one booking (i.e. BA took say £400 x2 which includes flying to London and then onwards to USA) so I don't have an actual amount to claim (assuming I was even in a position to make a claim?!)

I hope this makes sense & appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks :)

It would help if you could say where your journey actually originated, the length of the originally intended stop in London - was it an immediate transfer connection or were you staying in London overnight? - and details of exactly what was said and what was offered in terns of re-routing or re-booking by the BA staff at the airport of origin.
In order to have good cause to abandon the flight from X to London and make alternative arrangements to travel to London, the flight from X to London would have had to have been delayed beyond the point where it would no longer be possible to make the booked connection to the US. The fact that you were able to go to the airport of origin, find out that the flight was delayed by fog and then make a 'long' bus journey to London and still make the London to US flight makes me wonder if this is the case. If it is not, then you have no claim whatsoever against anybody. BA are not a low cost carrier; it is surprising that they were not more helpful in re-routing or re-booking or providing other assistance. You may have some entitlement to refund of the X - London sector depending on the fare type.

If this was all booked on one PNR (all flight on the same ticket) then you are lucky you were allowed on the second flight if you unilaterally decided to miss the first one and get the bus.

There are well defined rules around what, if any, compensation must be paid for delays, cancellations, or IDBs (involuntarily denied boarding), but before anyone can give you any advice you need to give us a lot more detail of the original booking, the cancellation and the alternatives offered. Also, did you book this direct with the airline or via a travel agent?

Any compensation/refund would come from the airline, not the CC.

Once you took the refund any obligations on BA's part as far as getting you to London ended. That said, I don't really understand what happened to you. You say you cancelled your entire booking which I assume also means your flight to the US but then took a bus to catch that flight? What exactly did you book and how did you book it (one ticket or separate tickets)?
