An honest house insurer?

I think that my greatest disappointed with all forms of insurance is that when I were a lad I insured with a company and stayed with it. Now days one tends to find that many companies automatically bung an increase in and unless one objects it just goes through.
I had one car insurance that increased by 24% so I entered a new proposal, if that's the correct term, finishing up with the same price as I was paying before they attempted to increase the cost by 24%. I took exception to this and went elsewhere.0 -

I'd call that dishonesty.0 -
I use hiscx for my insurance.
Last year it never went up at all.
I understand they are excellent but not the cheapest.
If you buy the cheapest then expect to get what you pay for.0 -

Blame comparison sites. Pricing is the way it is because that is the way the consumer buys. There are exceptions if you avoid the looking for the cheapest each year.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. if you find the legwork too difficult (it's not that hard) then why not use a broker to do it fit you automatically each year and send you the best could to choose from.
It still may require the application of conscious thought as the broker doesn't have esp regarding any change in circs.0 -
Hi I have worked in the insurance industry for 5 years - just left due to childcare reasons, I cannot comment on your insurer but the majority of them have call recordings, terms and conditions in policy booklets and on web pages the reason being is they are heavily regulated under the financial services compensation scheme and wouldn't want to be given misinformation. Basically any claims payments are likely to be your excesses. Excesses are made up of both voluntary and compulsory, check your papers for compulsory excesses because as a consumer it could be a minefield where it's hard to tell what's voluntary and what's compulsory. Most now are very honest and tell you what's voluntary and compulsory added together so you have a clear understanding what you have to pay upfront. I am sorry you have had a bad experience I cannot comment for anyone else working in the industry but I have done my level best to help people over the last 5 years working til after 8 in the evening whilst having small children at home getting looked after by other family members, good luck and we are not all sharks and I hope you find a good insurer to deal with.0

Unfortunately it's a fact of life that insurance companies are inherently dishonest. The phrases "honesty" and "insurance company" do not sit well together at all. NFU Mutual used to advertise along the lines of "we will not quibble", which of course is a side-swipe at the rest of the industry which clearly does quibble. They might be worth a punt, but I've no personal experience of them.
Give it a rest will you. Nothing you post is ever of any use, it's just yet another opportunity for you to vent.0 -

No mate! You give it a rest. If you don't like what I say put forward some contra-arguments - which for the case of "insurance companies are honest" will be bloody difficult. Stop whinging about me as a contributor. It's against the rules.
The point really is that you never actually offer anything to back up your vents. You just tend to make sweeping statements about how all insurers are out to screw you and never actually add anything of value to a thread.
Maybe you should start a thread of your own and outline what your personal experience has been - at least this way people could understand where you are coming from? All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Isn't this whole thread an unnecessary rant?
The OP wasn't treated dishonestly at all - just was ignorant of the situation regarding excess/no claim bonus.
The worst he can complain about is that the agent he spoke to didn't spot his ignorance and enlighten him. (Not that the agent had any reason to do so!)0
