Brown sugar scrub
Pout olive oil over brown sugar and mix
rub on and rinse off. I buy olive for this from B&M bargains as it cheap but usually close to it's expiry date but as I'm not eating it - I'm not bothered. Could add a bit off vanilla esence for vanila and brown sugar.0 -

Anyone got any good remedies / recipes for beauty treatments.
I've got horrendous, brittle, dry, flaky nails and I've tried all the expensive treatments - with no effect or they get worse.
I've read that soaking nails in olive oil every night will help to strenghten nails, so I'm going to give that a go. I think it stands to reason if your nails are brittle and dry, painting some hardener ontop of them isn't actually going to solve the problem.
Anyway, anyone else got any other old style beauty treatments?0 -
Brittle nails is sometimes an indication of not enough gelatin in the diet. Just massage a drop of warm oil (any cooking oil will do) into the nail and just below and then put on your rubber gloves and clean the bathroom. The warmth will help the oil work.
Day to day - put on your hand cream and rubber gloves to wash up. Once the washing up is done your hands will be lovely and soft. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
If you're wanting to make your own home beauty products with essential oils I order from https://www.EssentialOilsDirect.co.uk. Their prices and service is good and it was recommended by an aromatherapist

Buffing is meant to improve the strength and texture of the nail...mainly I think because it's a sort of intensive massage, and smooths the top so you are less likely to snag it. You will also have pretty nails you don't want to top with nail polish! Start gently though, and of course you'd have to buy (sorry!) the little thing first.
I've never heard of a requirement for gelatin  ... perhaps you do need to look at your diet, you can get supplements for hair skin and nails but you could probably have the same effect with more of the right food and maybe a calcium/vit D boost.0 -
I'm already taken special nail, skin and hair supplements from asda and have done for the last 4 months and I eat a (reasonably) healthy diet.
My hair is fine, my skin is quite dry and my nails are awful!0 -
My hands are very dry as I am constantly washing them (I work in a dirty environment and do a lot of gardening without gloves) I use Vaseline Intensive Hand Cream on my hands and nails after every wash, its around £3-4 a tube and you only need a bit, so its lasts quite a while. It softens you're cuticles too as I quite often got hangnailsPay all debts by Xmas 12 # 072 £1201.79/£15,105.68:eek:

I get dry skin and broken nails too. Some suggestions:
Always use rubber gloves for washing up and cleaning. Detergents make it worse.
Try and wear rubber gloves for any other wet jobs like gardening or DIY. Not always possible or practical though.
Use a hand cream every time you wash your hands. The Vaseline one mentioned is good. I use that if I have to buy it, but friends/family know of my problem, so I normally get masses of fancy ones at Christmas/Birthdays!
Smear loads of handcream on before you go to bed, so it can soak in while you are asleep. Here I go again on my own....0
