Mine is not as big as I would like it to be and it's shrunk about 5% in the last 12 months

I dare say a few people have experienced a bit of shrinkage recently. Blame the cold weather!

Mine is showing a mere 0.4% growth for the last twelve months.

But I have had a little income out of it.

And that's excluding my peer-to-peer, rental property investments, other lending and - not least - cash, of which I hold a much bigger proportion than most would advise, and that is because I am fortunate enough to be able to afford to.

My total net worth is down about £3,000 from a year ago, so not out on the streets just yet.

Well I'd like to know how long, sorry, big it is

When someone gives advice, if I know that they are also managing a £500K portfolio, I might take more notice of their advice because they are more likely to have been around the block a few times. If on the other hand they have £50 and a bright future, well that's good to know too.

What is also significant is how their investment portfolio fits into their big picture - what other assets do they have? And yes, their age, because this likely affects their priorities and world view.

I have fully disclosed my portfolio elsewhere. It is about £100k. I also have 60% of a house and a pension worth about £25K pa at some point in the future. Sharing this not to wave anything - but so that other posters can know and interpret my spiel accordingly.

How are you going to know that they are telling the truth? The only way to tell whether or not someone here is worth listening to is to DYOR.

Also, it would be quite wrong to form a view as to the value of someone's comments or expertise based on the size of their portfolio.

The past performance of it, rather than the size, would be better but still horribly flawed.

I am not precious about mine, however, so I would quite willingly disclose pretty much anything. Except account numbers. :-)

Mine seems to be getting smaller by the day, at the moment, but I am hoping the market stays down long enough to invest at these low values for a while longer.

They could be incredibly wealthy. That 500k could be their solitary initial investment in a diamond mine in Peru. However, I do agree that it is beneficial to hear advice/experiences from/of those that have seen a few economic cycles. Those are the posters whose views carry more gravitas, for me at least. I have been through a few cycles myself (2 redundancies) but never have I been investing and saving to the extent I am now.
