How big is yours?

Okay, my WB thread created a little discussion, and the conclusion is keep it simple and cost effective.
In that thread mention was made of an average investor, so let's follow this up, how big is your portfolio?
And supplemental question, who is it with?
Cheers fj

If that was the conclusion I would disagree. Suggest a better policy would be to keep your portfolio as simple and cost effective as possible given your desired asset allocation, but no simpler or cheaper.0 -

FWIW my guess is that you didn't conclude anything from that thread.
You had *already* concluded the answer, wrote it down, and then dismissed the answers that didn't agree with your prejudgment that simplest is objectively best.
Linton is right to caveat the statement with the concept that simplest and cheapest for your allocation and favoured strategy is of course best, but this is often not compatible with outright simplest and cheapest, because the best asset allocation for your needs might not be the outright simplest and cheapest.
To go back to your question though, the average UK saver probably has under £5k of liquid assets. The average user of this forum probably has more. The average user of the forum probably won't reply to your post so you won't have any meaningful data as a result (there are tens of thousands of registered MSE users, lets see how many reply...)
Personally I have more than the £5k. The assets not held directly or direct with managers or in my current employers pension scheme are mostly with TD ( ISA and unwrapped) and youinvest (SIPP).0 -
Isn't this nothing more than a willy-waving contest??
Mine is smaller than some and bigger than others. Is it big enough? Well, I wouldn't complain if it was bigger, but it does what I need it to do at present. And remember boys, it's not how big it is, it's how hard you make it work.
Now, about my portfolio......

And it also primarily depends on age so pretty impossible to compare meaningfully and could also vary depending what you include - property, BTL, pension etc.Isn't this nothing more than a willy-waving contest??

The portfolio of someone aged 60 "should" be much bigger than that of someone age 25. As per bowlhead, if the average is £5k then mine is above the average. My ISAs are with Fidelity and iWeb.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

I haven't got one, so I won't post any details:cool:.
If I had one, it would obviously be bigger than average though:D0 -
How big is your.... yearly % loss might be more interesting/current

I'm at roughly 5% down.
On willy waving topic though - only about 50k total but early doors for me.0
