Monday 8th February - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

    Morning Monday Savers,
    Just about to make a start on achieving today's list:
    *Empty washer onto heated airer. Reload for another cheap wash tonight.
    *Do rubber pork.....should be another 2 or 3 meals there.
    *Transfer £50 paypal money from ebay sales into Car Fund.
    *Wrap ebay parcel.
    *Pay 2 sums off CC, which was used solely to maximise points for vouchers.
    *Update grocery budget.
    *Check OLB for energy company goodwill gesture £50.
    *Update meter reading spreadsheets.
    *Order new pedometer as have found one for a couple of quid. Mine is producing random figures, which is v demotivating.
    *Do our 2016 seed order. Have some vouchers & need to work out best way of using them.
    *Enter 2 competitions.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
    *Find 2 recipes I've mislaid. Think in magazines waiting to go to my friend.
    *Write nephew's bday card. Gift & card already bought.
    *Write list of bday cards needed for next few months.
    *Knit more sock. Am speeding down the foot now.
    *Top up worm composter. Free rich compost from kitchen scraps, old flour bags, egg boxes, etc.
    *Do a few surveys.
    *Top up vintage glass decanters with cheapy bubble bath.
    *Do 2 jobs from Annoying Things list.
    Ok. Better get cracking. Lots to do & I can see the hoover's going to need to come out too, as the kitchen rug seems to be festooned in shreds of old vegetable for some reason :-/
    Hope those chickens are tied down Maria & Dawn. Weather forecast looks shocking your way.
    V strict calorie day on the new diet today so must keep busy.
    Love to all,
    F x

    Morning everyone, storm Imogen is battering Cornwall right now, i was going to go swimming before my late shift but tempted to give it a miss to minimise the time out on my bicycle - think that may just be a cop out but I dont really feel guilt about these things, shall just do something else.

    DFW things today are, meter readings, update account spreadsheet, take enough food to work to not go and buy a chocolate bar - success yesterday on that one :) stick to meal plan but pick some chard from the greenhouse to have with fishcakes tonight, really have a craving for green leafy veg - think im getting the lurgy that is going round. I have another item I could list on ebay - im going to go and dig it out and get it listed before work. and i could do a few surveys, have got round to that yet.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all :)
    Thanks for starting the thread Jonno :)
    Well, the weather here wasn't as bad as feared last night (we live inland, worse on the coast) but warnings are still in place for today :(

    Done so far:
    Fed chickens and collected 1 egg :)
    Washed hair with my favourite shampoo - it comes in huge bottles from Lidls and costs something like 80p :rotfl:
    Cheapie breakfast of porridge, stewed plums from the freezer and a spoonful of Lidls Greek yogurt :)
    Heating on only in bathroom and airing cupboard

    Still to do:
    Feed dog - if he has now eaten all of his last night's food, hope he hasn't been getting tips from Mrs F's cat :rotfl:
    Dog walks x 2 - hopefully micro mutt won't be blown away in the high winds :rotfl:
    Go to farm suppliers for chicken supplies if not too windy - not going out if it looks dangerous though, as we can manage another day with what we have :)
    Go through seed tin and see what I need to buy for the upcoming season. I will walk to the pound shop with the list when the weather settles down, as they have quite a good selection in there.
    Pull up more caterpillar and pigeon ravaged brassicas for the chickens - definitely won't bother again, they always get eaten by something, and our tiny space is better used for other things!
    Ask OH to put up pictures (and take down huge stags head / skull / antlers thing currently 'gracing' our chimney breast :eek:). It is something he has done for a client, and apparently some filler or paint or something needed a warm place to dry. It looks like a huge moose or something :eek: I'm sure other people don't have to put up with those :rotfl:
    HM meals from stores :)
    Any online surveys, check FPL
    Put stuff for charity shop in a carrier bag and leave ready to take when I next go out
    Post an item for RM surveys, and some competition entries using free stamps from doing the survey :)
    Light wood burner later, and put on kettle for 'free' hot water

    Well, that should keep me going for a while. I will pop back later to update :)

    Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Not a good start to the day for us. Our roof is being re-done and last night thanks to the heavy wind and rain, our front room turned into a swimming pool as we rushed around with towels and bowls to minimise the damage. Also happened in the bedroom so not much sleep thanks to that. Today I now have to.....

    - school run DONE
    - wash all the towels that got soaked from last night DONE
    - pull the frontroom apart, hand wash the floors and skirting and Hoover, trying to repair the damage TWO HOURS LATER!!! DONE
    - nursery run with DD
    - more cleaning
    - school run and meals from stores for kids
    - homemade tomato soup for me and OH
    - try not to stress and have a hot bath!!!

    Morning all!

    So I managed to secure myself an interview for today after work - cue lots of panicking last night! Need to try and live up to my CV as apparently they were very impressed! I'm trying to maintain the attitude that they either like me or they don't (it's not working and I'm still panicking!) :rotfl:

    Dawn - I've also taken a leaf out of Mrs F's book and am being strict with the dog! If they're hungry enough they'll eat it - well that's what I'm telling my OH who is always soft on the pooch!

    So today I have/will:-
    * Check banks
    * Eat overnight oats for breakfast
    * Email circuits instructor to let him know I wont be there tonight
    * Take jacket and shoes to work to change into for interview (cant dress up too much today or boss will know!)
    * Take lunch to work
    * Check FPL
    * Catch up on weekend's thread
    * Earn more on OnePoll
    * Perform amazingly well at my interview and get the job! (Well I can hope!)
    * Dinner from stores
    * Check flylady thread and do some cleaning (although wont be much by the time I get home)
    * Sort out laundry

    Hope you all have a good day!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,435.00
    Total paid off - £10,165.89 (65% paid off)
  • Hi all, just popping in full of Monday morning enthusiasm that I will be GOOD this week. I have a big big big unexpected council tax bill to pay these next few months so I need to monitor my spending on a daily basis.

    Good luck Twiggy with your interview I hope it goes well for you.
    Hope everyone is staying safe in this windy weather. I think I am growing webbed feet with all the rain we've had this year.

    So today I will write a shopping list for food which I will get tonight at Lidly and Morries. I will firstly need to meal plan for the week which I'll do in my lunch break.

    Check bank accounts and budget spreadsheet and update tonight.
    Lunch and tea from stores - and DO NOT GO INTO TOWN at lunchtime!!
