  • I've only got bank accounts with M&S and TSB, the M&S app is horrible, actually to the point I'm considering switching!

TSB app is great, super easy to log in and use.

I can't vote as you assume the best customer service will have the best app.

I tried to download the M&S app about 6 months ago (iPhone 4s:o) and kept getting error messages so gave up.

I dislike their 'Belt & Braces' card thingy with a vengeance, but as I only use the account for the Regular Saver & occasional M&S spending with offers, I'll put up with it;)

Natwest does all I need it to, but I find the M&S app worthless, and can't even see my regular saver on it

I've not voted as I'd need to bank with all of them and have needed to contact customer service to make an informed choice.

I will say however that any app that allows me to login with just a 5 digit passcode like Barclaycard, Tesco and Co-Op would get my vote.

FD and HSBC are OK but feel a little clunky. TSB, Lloyds and Halifax are fine but would prefer a passcode login.
  • Tesco - but not listed in the poll.

An app would be about on a par with being offered tea and cake every time I go into the branch - the first I don't need, and the second I don't expect (I think I might have had a cup of tea when I was doing a mortgage application in 2001, but I don't suppose they offered any cake). In both cases there are many things that are much more important in my decision as to which banks to use.

Given that I typically call my bank a few times a year, only visit a branch if someone has sent me a cheque, but use the app pretty much every day, the quality of the app is a major factor for me. So I'd vote for Barclays on that basis, although I can't really comment on the quality of telephone customer service as I don't think I've had to call them since opening the account. However, I have used the secure message system in the online banking and got a useful reply within the promised timescale. In general unless a matter is urgent I prefer to use secure messaging than calling them - but not all banks provide this.

First Direct telephone customer service has always been very good, but I agree that their app and online banking services are awful.

I think Nationwide is pretty good on both counts.

For me there isn't much difference between the apps. I can use them all to view my balance and transfer money. That's all I need to do.

Barclays, Tesco, Natwest and Co-operative Bank are probably the easiest to get in to because you only need to enter a PIN.

Santander is the most fiddly to get in to because you have to enter a passcode and PIN.

I too will go for Lloyds banking group (all of there brands share the same online platform and are the same- just different colours) I cant comment for phone banking as in 13 years of being a customer I've never needed to call them and do everything online. The ipad app is superb as well. Cant beat sitting by the beach and paying your bills- love it.
