Best Banking App

Options
Hi,

I'm currently with First Direct. Their customer service is apparently great. Personally, I dont know how great their CS has been because I hardly have to speak to them.
What I do know is that I find their Android App and Online Banking is terrible. Slow to log into and not easy to use.

It's come to the point where I'm looking to switch banks. I was out recently and a friend paid me using his app within a few moments which made me realise how bad FD's app is. I try my best to avoid using it.
Judging by the Google Play Store, the best app is made by Lloyds.

I was wondering if we could get some feedback on which banks have the best overall App AND customer service experience according to MSE readers.

Please can you vote if you are happy with your bank AND happy with your banking app/website?

Many thanks in advance!
Dan

  • Barclays for there app, but there call centres aren't UK based

I was with Barclays for a long time, but left them after they charged me for going a little overdrawn. I had my business with them and felt that it was petty to charge me the overdrawn fees when it was clearly an accident and they made plenty of fees from my business. There were other issues too so I dont think I'd even go back to them.
Also thanks for telling me that their calls centres are not UK based. Another reason not to go back.
I agree that their online system was good. Never tried the app though when I was with them. Not sure if they even had one when I was with them.

I've banked with Coop, Halifax, Barclays and HSBC.

Coop and Halifax was a good while back. I found them both pretty basic, specially the Coop one. HSBC was very slow and lagged a lot. I found it frustrating. The two best ones have been Barclays and Santander for me. Neither have UK call centres however, I've never found it an issue. Both their online banking and apps are good and fortunately, I've never had any reason to call them.

  • Halifax and lloyds bank are the same. Lloyds banking group are constantly looking at the best way to improve! Their latest update has actually been really good. Takes seconds to log in (once registered) and remembers all your regular payments easy to check all accounts. Takes seconds to send money to new and saved recipients
  • Also you can cancel and create standing orders and cancel d/d. Report you card lost or stolen.
  • Annoying thing about Lloyds, they want me to come into branch to open the account. Little backward in this modern world.
My wife is a student nurse and doesn't have any time to go into branch with me.
    Hmm..

Some places might let you go in individually so if it's a joint account, you could go in when it suits you and then your wife could go in when she has some spare time.

In regards to the OP, I agree with First Direct's app being rubbish. I quite like Natwest's one though. Quick, easy and can do so much on it.

I do my banking on my desktop over breakfast and, despite having used in excess of a dozen banks in the last year, can't remember the last time I needed customer service for anything except signing me up.

I find far more benefit in finding which bank pays the best interest rate, CC cashback or switching bonus.
