Talkmobile surprising internet speeds

So this is just a curiosity really and I have limited data so I haven't carried out many speed tests.

However, I've just got a new phone capable of receiving 4G, and I know I'm in a 4G area.

My contract is with Talkmobile who use the vodafone network but claim not to be offering 4G, and my phone notes my connection as 3G. I've just done two speed tests, one with Speedtest (14mbps) and one with a different browser test (16mbps). Surely these are not 3G speeds.

Anyone else noticed anything similar?

Oh, I googled, I guess if it's HSPA+ maybe it's not all that surprising, just seemed fast.

Vodafone have partnered with o2 with a project named "Corner Stone".

Throughout the country they've been upgrading mobile phone masts to 4G and I believe they've improved 3G coverage at the same time.

That *could* be why you are seeing such data speeds on the two speed tests; when I select 3G only on my phone I get similar results.

On Vodafone 4G I've had results as high as 70 Mbits/s!!

Ahh I think I got over excited, my previous phone has weird network issues where everything went super slowly no matter what the connection was like. So it's a novelty to have stuff loading up at normal speeds.

That and I had a fight to get the mobile internet working at all. Can't get Talkmobile to send through the settings, so had to enter them all myself. And then got super excited because I was connected and getting what I thought were good speeds :p
