Painting over oil based paint

I've used an oil based paint to cover a stain which came through a wall but after leaving it dry and sanding the area down the oil paint is still visible when I paint over it with the rest of the rooms coloured paint.

What can I do to fix the problem I have?

3 coats so far and its still showing through.

What 'oil based paint' did you use? If you have used gloss, it will show through.

You need to re coat it with an oil based UNDERCOAT as this dries to a matt finish. Then coat it with the emulsion.

any particular product/brand you recommend in using?

Any oil based undercoat.This also works (for example) water stain marks on emulsioned ceilings.
Phill99 answered your question there is no need to dig further.
