O/S Daily Sunday 7 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Light here, sky is clear but no frost and ground is drying.

DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day.

Dinner last night was a clear up of gammon steak, pork chops, sausages, chips, onion rings, peas and mushrooms, ice cream for dessert all went down well and a bit more space made in the freezer and no money spent on expensive takeaways. Lunch today will be roast chicken, roasties, mash, brussels, carrots, brocoli, peas, stuffing, yorkshires and gravy. I'll organise pack ups once I've got lunch prepped and cooking - then I'll have a chilled afternoon.

Yesterday work wasn't packed but steady - especially bearing in mind the time of year and we're supposed to be in our "quiet time". Back to work for me tomorrow and we'll see what that brings. When I came out of work DH and the boys met me and we went straight to my parents but they weren't home so we went home, had some lunch then DS1 rang my parents to see if they were home and they were so went to visit them and the outlaws - so all visiting done yesterday.

We decided yesterday that we would see what we could do about a holiday but nothing too expensive - and I was able to book a few days away with our caravan instead of the expensive week we had booked which I cancelled when the work restructure was announced. This we don't have to pay a deposit and could cancel up to the day we go so all good. Also I can start planning now and use vouchers etc to make it as cheap as possible, actually I'm looking forward to this more so than what we had planned previously if I'm honest.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:
    Happy Birthday JackieO :bdaycake: :D

LaineyT In case I don't see you in the morning – good luck for tomorrow! xx

TravellingAbuela Sorry about the little piggy x When we were down to one, we decided to wait a few days and see how he got on. If he was lonely I was going to book him into the vets to get him neutered then get him a female friend. But he was fine and enjoyed the extra attention from us, lol. His cage, though plenty big enough to live in, was left open during the day (as long as one of us was home) and he could wander around the hall and kitchen if he felt like it. He even went back into his cage to pee so there was no mess to clean up! He used to follow our rabbit around so I think he learned his toilet habits from her when he was young :D

I bought an extendable pole for the lounge window, Scampi will not stop barking frantically at anyone who walks/cycles past the house. I have an old net curtain (he shredded the bottom half of the one on the patio doors on holiday, I replaced it and brought the old one home) which I've put up to see if it helps. He still stands up at the window sometimes, stares out and barks, but it's stopped him seeing people out of the corner of his eye if he's just lazing on the floor or sofa. It looks a bit odd because it's not wide enough, there's not much gather. I'll buy some new, three times as wide so it blocks his view a little bit more, then put taller things on the window sill. Hopefully I'll be able to keep the curtains open all day (can't remember the last time that happened!) and peace will reign :D

It rained heavily all day yesterday. Apart from letting the chickens out and putting them away again later, I didn't see them all day. They spent the day hiding in their shed and under the bush. Scampi was a bit bored but behaved himself, at 4pm the rain wasn't quite as bad so I grabbed the lead and we went out for a walk. We didn't get very far, it started tipping down again so we came back home. We'd only been out for 15 minutes so not much exercise for either of us and we were both soaked :D It couldn't have rained during the night, the puddles on the garden had disappeared when I looked out first thing.

I think the weather is going to be the same today, it wasn't raining when I woke up so I let Scampi out and he's done a few laps round the garden :D He came back in 20 minutes later, just before it started raining again. I have a couple of loads of washing to do and I want to dust the lounge, apart from that I'll be crocheting for most of the day.

Morning Nmlc and all who cross post/follow.

    Happy Birthday JackieO

I babysat last night didn't get in until 1am, still the children were no trouble so I did some crochet and read my kindle, with the dog on my lap.

WM is chugging away, there was no point doing it all yesterday as it wouldn't have dried, so I just did one load and hung it on the maiden and another load this morning. I'll set the DW going after breakfast.

    Have a good day everyone

    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Very rainy here in Glasgow though I think it's worse back home.

Happy Birthday JackieO, enjoy your day with your lovely family. Let them spoil you.

Dumpling - I hope you make it to church today and have a great time seeing your friends agsin.

Mum wants to go to the big yellow shed, I really really hate going there so I'll probably sit in the cafe whilst she wanders round getting what she wants. Then I'll head home after lunch.

Sad about little chick and pet guinea pig too. Animals do become beloved and leave a hole in our lifes when they go.

I don't think it's time to get up yet!

I hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning all,

Happy Birthday JackieO hope you have a lovely day with your family xx

Ah thanks Tru trying not to feel nervous about it all :o

Dry and clear here, girls walked and now snoozing on the rug. The wind seems to have died down for the time being, was bad yesterday all day and then seemed to get even worse late evening. Did manage to get all my chores done so going to have a nice, restful Sunday. Will do a cooked brunch at 11ish as am meeting some pals for a lunchtime hack, then will do avocado and black bean tortillas for later. Bit unorthodox for Sunday but it's one of OH fav meals, very tasty and easy to do
Other than that it will just be the Archers omnibus on the radio and some more reading of my book so all very civilised :)
Have a good day all, take care folks x
  • Morning all. What a wild and blowy night it's been.

Happy Birthday JACKIE. Enjoy your special day!

TRU I will pass on the info re lonely little piggies. They'd read they don;t like to be alone hence their thoughts on a friend for him. I had quite a few when I was young but they shared our garden shed with numerous rabbits and mice (separate cages!) so probably always felt to be with friends!

Well, as expected, I am feeling churned up. Our bags are all but packed, just last minute bits to go in. Train is at 12.25 and seats reserved on the Leeds to Liverpool leg, which leaves at 1.10. Arrive Liverpool at 3.00, so straight to the hotel and maybe a nap before going for dinner about 6.00. Want to be back in our room in time for the last War and Peace!

It'll be early breakfast tomorrow as we need to be at the Royal just before 9.00. If it's a re-run of last time I'll be able to stay until the radio active stuff starts around lunchtime. Then I have to leave. Hopefully this time I will feel more like wandering round Liverpool before going back to the hotel. I won't be allowed back at the hospital till the following morning as he has to be in total isolation. Offers from DS and SIL, both last time and this time, to come and be with me but I said I'd be fine. Churned up maybe but don't mind being on my own.

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx

    Morning all,

    Happy Birthday JackieO X

Lainey - good luck for tomorrow

Elona - your new home sounds great - just wanted to mention about getting your multi fuel burner serviced and chimney swept - I know that you probably would anyway, but we have friends that run a stove business and lots of people are cancelling sweeps/services to save a few quid, it could cost lives X hope your not offended by me mentioning it.

DH is working today, DS2 stayed out last night, so am spending an hour in bed with Monty Don and a coffee this morning, I,ll meet Andrew Marr in the lounge soon ;)

Roast beef for dinner - bought a huge joint in b@@ker before Christmas it was reduced to £11 and has been cut into 4 big bits - full on roastie today, and LO,s will be chucked in a pot for stew and dumplings tomorrow.

Will deep clean the en-suite today and do some ironing and treat myself to a girlie film this afternoon before DH returns.

Have a fab day all X

    Morning all.

Happy birthday Jackie O.🎂 I hope you have a lovely day. I'm sure your family will see to that though.

My kitchen looks like a Chinese laundry this morning. I like to get the laundry out the way as soon as possible when the men get home but yesterday I was a bit lapse and we were out most of the day. Still managed to do the pancakes though.

Busy day ahead of me so why am I still in bed? I need to finish the laundry. Prepare 5 days worth of sandwiches for the men to take to work. Cook a meal for them to take for Monday evening. Prepare our meal for tonight and go visit Mom. I have some fresh pineapple for her that won't keep till Tuesday. Need to fit a bath in there somewhere too. Youngest has asked me to sew his coat. I'll struggle to do that with my eyesight.

I'll start by getting out of bed...in a minute.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all
