Unlocking O2 iPhone but I'm not the account holder
I've recently bought a brand new iPhone from eBay which is locked to O2 network. I want to use this phone on Three and need some help from my fellow mse forum members on how I can do this.
I know O2 let you unlock it for free but I think that is only if you are the account holder of the account the phone was purchased on.
Is there any way I can get it unlocked without being the holder of the account the was bought on? I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount to get it unlocked.

Was the eBay seller a business rather than an individual?
If it's an individual then they'd have to contact o2 on your behalf.
I just had a look at o2's website and you need have the handset 12 months on PAYG before you can unlock the device (£15.00 fee deductible from your credit balance). It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

Thanks for the reply. It was an individual and I know for sure that it wasn't on PAYG, it was a pay monthly upgrade, he showed me the receipt.
I have seen what it says on o2 website, the trouble is I've left few messages and he is not replying. So I'm wondering if there is any other way.0 -
I know this isn't going to help you, but why would you choose to buy what was no doubt quite an expensive phone, from an individual on EBay, that is/was knowingly prior to purchase, locked to a network that you don't want to use?
If you know someone that is on O2 as a contract customer, I'm pretty sure that you can get them to put their sim into the phone and make some calls/texts etc., so that the network sees some activity and can capture the imei of the phone. They should then be able to apply to O2 to unlock the phone.
Assuming of course that the individual that you bought the phone from is not now going to go silent on you and report the phone as lost/stolen to claim on their insurance...0 -
Thanks. But I have since found out that O2 won't unlock the latest iPhone (I.e. They will unlock upto iPhone 6 but not 6s at the moment) which is what I've got. So I'll just get a cheap o2 sim only deal and use it that way.0
