National Rail London 2for1 attractions

We are soon going to visit London as a tourist for the first time in many years.
We are travelling by car (from Oop North) to the outskirts (not sure where yet but probably within Tube distance) and would like to know what is the cheapest way of being able to take advantage of the National Rail 2for1 offers.
We have already got freebie tickets for the Ideal Home Show (Thanks Martin) & would also like to go on the London Eye & visit Kew Gardens, maybe even have a day at the zoo.
As we are going to stay for several days I suppose I need a cheap return ticket from somewhere into central London. Is this feasible & is it worth it? Or is there a better way?
Thanks for any help.

You do not need to actually use the ticket for travel, but of course you can do if, say, travelling from the outskirts.
An Anytime Day Single from Waterloo East to Charing Cross is £2.90.
Don't forget that you must buy your ticket from a national rail outlet. Buying from a tube station will not get you the discount.0 -
We might end up staying at the Kew Bridge Travelodge. There is a very close railway station. Do you know if tickets from there to central London would be eligible for the offer?0

Buying the tickets at Kew Bridge Station or Gunnersbury Station - depending on what part of London you are heading for - will be fine.0 -
We are planning on taking family who are visiting from overseas.
There are going to be 6 of us. In order to qualify do I need to buy 3 rail tickets or 6?
The T&C's state that each rail ticket entitles you to 2for1 entry.

So in you case you need six train tickets which are valid on the day of the visit to the attraction.0 -
I have East Coast Virgin printed internet tickets. One for going and one for return. Can these be used for the national rail discounts?0
-
Yes - subject to the dates being appropriate0

Thanks. We arrived in London yesterday and it's advance single tickets we have as that's what was cheapest. So one coming is dated 8th the other is dated 12th, not so sure if they will allow that as it appears like you have to have a 'return' for it to be valid over a few days!0
-
Yes that counts as a return and you can use it on the intermediate days - as long as you have both tickets0
