Not enough food at function

Fair enough but I still believe that without clarification of exactly what you'd be getting for your money then you could be on a hiding to nothing.Thank you Neilmcl. However I think that would be full size food, not mini's (mini sausage rolls, mini samosa, etc, they were all the tiny party food versions)0 -
So you are wanting to pay £470 for the food instead of the £940 requested, so you would only pay £530 of the £1000. If they don't agree then you may be the recipient of a Letter Before Action and a subsequent Money Claim On Line action. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

In that case the numbers should be at least double that which they provided. And why only 50 portions of salad for 100 people? They clearly have only catered for 50 people so I would stand my ground and deduct £470 from the final bill.0 -
Well if you went into you local supermarket at lunchtime and purchased a salad, 1 piece of bbq chicken, a samosa, spring roll, sausage roll and a sandwich you probably wouldn't get much change from a tenner either. So £9 per head starts to seem a bit more reasonable. Maybe you had some greedy guests at the wake who had more than their fair share.
Going by what OP has said, you could buy everything they provided from a supermarket for around £60-70. And the chicken would be the highest cost - taking up around half of that figure. (ETA: although that was the better deli chicken I priced rather than frozen wings or the likes).
And thats without the discount that comes with bulk buying. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
if they did actually provide 550 items then that would be £1.71 per individual item (mini sausage roll, samosa etc), as tehy have already told us the price for the venue, staff and beverages.0

How many plates did they put out? Were there 50 plates or 100 plates ?0
-
I really dont know how many plates they had out, and we didnt take photos of the food because we were under the impression that they would be refilling the stock. They made a point of telling us the night before when we were setting up the room to make sure part of the area was clear so they could do this.
Unfortunately i do not think it is a good idea to get it as far as court ccj's and I wonder if this is what they want. I suppose there is the local press.0 -
They had a cunning plan to make what they would call a profit.
Bottom line is the contract should have been discussed at length to make sure you knew what you were getting.
Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted springs to mind but bottom line is you agreed and whether it was enough is debatable.
There is also the greedy b***ard syndrome, that's the first people up to the buffet who can't help themselves and pile their plates so high that it would choke the horse that ran away.0 -
Reminds me of a family funeral £17.95 per head for 100.
The food provided was pitiful and lasted no more than five minutes.
I think some places work on the assumption that no one will complain due to the nature of the event.
OP I hope you manage to get the bill down and well done for complaining.0 -
OP that sounds a very meagre offering.
Now that you have their list of what was provided for the figure I would approach a couple of similar establishements/caterers and ask them for a detailed quote for a buffet for 100 costing the figure you paid for the food element. Then you have some evidence to go forward with.
Get them to specify the definition of a "round" and what they would consider made up a portion for 1 person.
If you have two quotes with details it is reasonable to expect your venue to have produced a similar offering.
Write the venue a letter to say you are seeking advice as to how to proceed whilst you are getting the quote/s, don't just ignore them.0
