Booked a holiday in Jan with jet2 holidays and given the increased media attention about zika I contacted jet2 insurance to enquire if I would be covered for cancelling should zika hit Europe! We are travelling to algarve in June and il be 27 weeks pregnant! There was no mention of zika when we booked! Jet 2 advised they would have covered us had we book our insurance before 25th Jan  how is that allowed when the virus isn't even in Europe yet!!
Does anyone know anywhere I could get cover in the event of the virus spreading? There is no way I would travel if it became prevalent in Europe as I'm a general tasty target for mosquitos! Haven't paid full holiday yet it's due at beginning of April! So if virus is in Europe b4 that we just will cancel!!!

I'm a bit confused, do you already have insurance in place or are you still looking to take it out?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
No insurance in place - don't know where to get insurance with that specific cover!0

Ok the virus is in South America and can only be spread by getting bitten or sexual transmission! I live in ireland so no chance of a mosquito infestation here! Media reports are speculating that it 'could' spread to Europe (I don't know how mosquitos cross the Atlantic) but that's a risk I obviously can't take - at the moment there are no cases in Europe!0

If you are seriously worried about getting bitten by a Mosquito then forget going abroad this year. Stay at home.
You do realise Zita is only potentially dangerous to pregnant women, do you think you will be pregnant this summer? If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -

Some insurers seem to be saying that they will consider claims for pregnant customers who booked trips to countries affected by the Zika virus prior to January 25, 2016.
The implication being that travel to countries not affected may not be affected at the moment. I think your best bet might be to phone up some of the more reputable ones and ask the question directly. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Perhaps you should bother to read the OP properly next time so you don't look like such an arrogant fool?
Zika (not Zita...) has rapidly spread throughout Latin America in a matter of months, has been declared a global health emergency, there have been 6 imported cases in Portugal - the country the OP is going to, and 7 cases in Spain and the WHO has predicted it could break out in Europe this Summer.
Yes the risk is currently non-existent given transmission methods, and the risk in June will probably be negligible, but to berate a pregnant woman who is concerned about the health of her unborn baby is pathetic and vitriolic.
To answer the actual question, you may find it difficult to find reasonably priced insurance that will cover it now it's been predicted to spread to Europe this summer. You'll probably find the airlines, if not the hotels, will be sympathetic at the very least and either fly you elsewhere or refund you. About the only advice I can give is to use a comparison website and then call the relevant insurer to check you'd be covered in that scenario.0 -
