ANy suggestions for a good quality but not wildly expensive dashcam please? I've been driving for nearly 34 years and have also done my full advanced driving but just lately I've been thinking it is only a matter of time before someone drives into me and then tries to pin it on me. I've had some really nasty near-misses just lately, including an older driver who pulled out of side road onto a 50mph duel carriageway in front of me. I had cars overtaking me (speeding!) at the time so my only option was the brakes. I don't know how my pretty basic car did manage to stop in the given distance, in a straight line given the fact that the road was wet at the time. I had stuck my hand on the horn as well as both my feet on the brake pedal - the stupid woman completed her turn out then stopped dead in front of me. I've previously had 3 ding-dongs with people doing much the same and driving into the side of my car, luckily at low speed, and had good witnesses, but one day there won't be a witness and I fear the judge will just say 50-50 (this has happened to a friend when a car ran into the back of her). So I want to protect myself and would welcome suggestions.

Mobius is fine so long as you get the power wired in as the internal charge is about 60-80 minutes (use a USB mini cable to the fuse or other power source - I did mine to the cigarette lighter with a USB charger) - not perfect at night but fine in the day to get plates and it's a bit bigger than a matchbox.

Only down side I had was fixing it, I used the velcro they supplied and the glue kept peeling off in the summer meaning it was hanging by the cable pointing at the floor and falling off when driving. You could get a windscreen holder or use some stronger velcro with a bigger contact area

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I've got two Mobius units, front and rear. They're very small and image quality is good. I ordered through a site in China, ordered windscreen mounts at the same time and had them with four days!

Have a good read of the Dashcam thread in the Sticky.

Its there so you don't have to post yet another "What Dascham" thread!

OP don't forget to let your car insurance company know that you've got a cam fitted as they reduce your insuance. I don't know if all insurance companys do, but mine did when I told them I had one fitted.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

You have either been very unlucky (which I doubt) or you need to be more aware of potential hazards and drive defensively.

I wonder if it has occurred to you that the woman stopped dead in front of you because you blew the horn long and loud.

I'm not surprised that she stopped.

I think that perhaps you blew the horn in retribution to tell her off.

I feel that if you had not blown your horn the other car would have moved on and the whole thing would have been less dramatic.

I probably wouldn't. The day you forget to put the chip back in will be the day you have a bump. I don't tell my house insurers that I have a burglar alarm either.

You beat me to it, I was going to offer the same words of caution.

You only want to admit to having a dashcam when you think what it shows will favour you.
