Broadband speed help needed please

Please can someone advise about broadband megs. I am upgrading my BT broadband package but do not really understand the meg information.
I currently have 14meg which seems slow. BT have offered me 2 infinity packages - one with 35meg and one with 80meg.
We run a small business from home and need the internet for this as well as watching catchup TV and boosting our Vodaphone signal with a Sure Signal device. We do not use any game devices.
Do I actually need 80megs? What difference would this make?
Any advice would be appreciated as I do not want to pay for something I do not need.

14 meg is fast enough for nearly everything .
You don't really need 80 meg .
But if you are running business you really need business broadband .As on a home contract if your business lost money due to the internet being down for a month its your problem no compensation .0 -
I'd take the smaller Infinity 38mb package, it will be fast enough. Just make sure that you choose the unlimited option instead of the cheaper 40gb bandwith limited one. Although as per above, if you run a business that relies on your internet connection, paying that bit more for business broadband might be worth while.0

The main difference for infinity, for those who already have speeds upwards of 10meg download, is the huge improvement in the upload speed you get with infinity.
Normal ADSL you will get 1meg max, infinity 1 gives 10meg, infinity 2 gives 20meg upload.0 -
Thank you for replies - they are really helpful.
We do have a business broadband package already. I think I will go for the 35 meg package.0 -
eeeh i remember 28k modems, 56k was nice, 512k DSL was WOW...
That was the limit for a while and everyone managed fine. Then it increased to upto 8mb i was on 3.5 which was the limit for the distance on my line.
Had no issues with that it was 100% stable with just 2 days of issues whilst they did some work on my line. So 2 days of lost connections and speed variations in over 4 years.
FTTC was a big boost sub 4MB to 72MB was WOW again... A 1GB file in less than 2 minutes.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As above, unless you are uploading large files regularly, I cannot imagine why 14MBps is not adequate.
Are you sure you are actually getting that speed though?
