Getting a mortgage and then becoming mortgage-free!

Called the bank and did some money shuffling, regular saver restarted and other funds swiped into another savings account with a low interest rate so it's out of the way. I'll look at better rate accounts shortly but I wanted to move it out of the way so it wasn't frittered away.
Recapping on progress against goals so far this year :jKittenkirst wrote: »Goals for 2017:

2) rebuild savings to £1750 in 2017- £2005.02!
3) get rid of credit card once & for all(£940 left on 0%) -paid off!

5) run a 10km race - paid for a race but a dear friend back home has her new babies naming ceremony on the same date, will have to sign up for the other one in September/October
6) find somewhere to volunteer at- aim for at least 6 volunteering days in 2017 preferably with homeless charity or a mental health charity.this one is giving me some guilt as I've looked into a few places but not yet got up the nerve to go and check out the places/meet the people etc

Today has been spendy, but planned spends as the little boys had their first trip to their vets. We took the advice given a few weeks back and did the kitten starter plans for them both so they've both had their initial vaccinations, microchipping, flea/parasite treatment and been weighed! It cost £85 each kitten and we go back for their second vaccination in three weeks.
Hugo is 1.1kg and Oscar 1.07kg so still very small. The vet advised that their balls haven't dropped yet (ooo-ee!) so she thinks they are younger than what the seller said. Hugo has a small ulcer on his tongue which could be cat flu but neither of them have sniffles or anything so it may just be a one-off. Both kitties are a little docile now and a little grumpy with us!
Other than that it's been a NSD for me, not for the lovely gf though as she had her Merc service (!) and the retest for the MOT which thankfully now it's passed following the four new types fitted by Costco this weekend.
Whilst we were out we went to the gym so I ran a 4km and the calf felt okay, gf has a hospital appointment tomorrow morning for a pre existing condition so we're going to the running shop in the afternoon for gait analysis to see if some new runners will help with reducing the calf issues.
Off to the gf's parents for dinner tonight and chill with themFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

A bit cheeky I know but I had the gait analysis and then bought the recommended trainers much cheaper from M&M direct. I did buy the insoles so not that cheeky really. The new trainers and insoles were much better and I haven't had any problems since.0

I had a gait test and bought the recommended trainers - so worth it! I used to get pain in my feet when running and exercising but the trainers they recommended stopped all that. I now just continue to buy the latest trainers in that range and I can get them online for much cheaper, as Busy Mee says.
I'm glad the Merc passed the service and MOT... can't imagine how much that all costs. At least you'll have saved some money going through Costco for the tyresMortgage: Mar 2018 -£300,000 / Jul 2021 -£255,000 / Oct 2024 -£172,835 (1.27% Interest until Feb 2027)

Banking all sorted, gf's annual hospital appointment went well, we then had a lovely pub lunch together and then did the gait analysis. We did manage to snaffle a few freebies in town like ice cream shake samples, hotel chocolat samples and used the John Lewis coffee and cake voucher which we shared.
Now back home and played with the kittens for an hour to try and get them a bit tired out and they are now snoozing away dreaming of fighting each other (most probably!)
Two small tilly tidies to the mortgage made today, a bit of tidying and then planning for a walk in the Peak District tomorrow if the weather holds up! Will take a picnic and flasks of coffee to keep us goingFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
