Ha ha no worries; I was really nosey before i started doing it and luckily some people i follow on instagram do it in different areas so gave a little insight.
So on Uber Eats on Sunday it was fairly constant; one of the restaurants i went to 4 times is only 3 mins from my house, so one time I was pulling back home for the loo and got another delivery in! After that I would get a ping straight after the previous drop-off.
You get paid per delivery- you don’t see how much it pays until after drop-off (annoyingly)
From an insurance perspective I signed up to Zego which integrates with UberEats and JustEat- so i was charged for my deliveries from the first delivery i received (4.14pm) until I finished and signed out of the app. So the insurance cost me £3.16.
I have paid £25 upfront for this so I have £21.84 left of credit on that (approx 25 ish hours).
I have just had confirmation I have a JustEat run tomorrow after work 6pm-10pm so will give that a go too (I will have the Uber app open too so that I have more opportunities: one of my instagram friends advised this is best). It’s a Wednesday so assume it will be quieter than the footie on Sunday but will see how I get on.
Ive opened a linked ISA to my first Direct Account as I can see my Uber “wages” from last week pending; I will transfer all the money across and once I have a little stash I will then move the money to savings/pay for fuel/insurance etc.
I couldn’t believe how chuffed I was yesterday when I got that tip! completely made my evening (for £4! Ha!)First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!2 -
Thank you, so interesting! Maybe it’s something I could do when/if DH travels for work again - bored at home on my own!
(And I’d better bear in mind that tips are super appreciated too, although most of our Uber deliveries come from the restaurant themselves, so they’re getting paid properly anyway)Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Yeah, I think its definitely something you can pick up and put down whenever is suitable; the registering took a little while to come through- a few weeks but once set up you are good to go and do it whenever you fancy (from what I can tell!).
I’m off kayaking this evening (not been for two weeks due to my ankle sprain) so I’m super excited, and then tomorrow is trialling JustEat.
I’m hoping to make £20 a week profit or so for a few hours here and there which can go towards either the mortgage or savings pots for something specialI’ll only do it when i fancy it, not let it become a chore really

That sounds like a really good way to approach it! Better than endless surveys too! 😊Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I must say that I am fascinated by your Uber Eats shenanigans. I'm curious how you feel about doing it as a woman? I've considered doing it but I seem to attract weirdos so it freaks me out a bit.

@VelvetFreak That is one thing that concerns my girlfriend about me doing this. So on Sunday I decided that I would only work until half time for the match, as after that I think there would be a lot more drunken people and therefore more chance of issues/aggression etc.
As its summer its light out until quite late so I feel pretty safe, also they have safety features in the app to call for help etc if needed (I also have “find my friends” enabled so my gf can see my location if she is concerned), but that’s my impression from my first attempt. Will see how i get on as this progresses and winter starts to come in.
I’m down to do a shift tonight with JustEat 6pm-10pm (as with them you have to provide availability in advance and they schedule runs, you can pick up runs on the day if they are missing drivers but I didn’t see anything come through on Sunday so not sure on how effective that is in my little town, or whether I’d need to head to the main city centre to get those).
It’s all a bit of test it and see, but Ive been paid today the £37.96 so that’s pretty quick for cash in the bank reallyFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

I guess it depends how safe you feel generally in your local area too. I think those are sensible precautions KK. I know we've had female delivery drivers before. The vast majority of people are fine, so you've got to balance the risk with the benefits as with all things.
Interesting that you have to schedule with JE - that sounds less enjoyable somehow!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Yeah JustEat does seem a bit more rigid @themadvix but i think that’s just so they have cover for deliveries; you can drop the ‘shift’ if you want to, finish early or take a break when you need so it does sound flexible, just more pre-planned than Uber (probably differences in the tech they use).
And yes, at the moment my prolific surveys have been very low- like 38p survey once a day- my timings for checking it obviously aren’t coinciding with the high paying surveys.
Lots of stressful chats this week at our house unfortunately- the sale of the in-laws business is due for the 27th however the buyers lender has provided documentation showing they are lending 40k less than the agreed price. The buyer insists they have the money but our solicitors are being cagey about signing over the post office side of it in 2 weeks on the 27th without confirmation of funds.
For our house we have asked our brokers to contact the lender - Leeds to do a product transfer. The rate we have approved back in April/May is 2.2% however we can switch to 2.05% for the same term so it makes sense to do it. However the brokers got a little stressed about it and panicky about it being so close to completion date (7 weeks!) and then realised that its with the same lender so shouldn’t be any bother at all really. After a quick call this morning they are putting it through however we initially asked for £309,449 mortgage, however we now only need £302,321 lending. The broker has advised if we change the figures (even down) we are risking the offer as its changing the material terms.
So we are just going to use the £4128 extra we have saved etc and put it as an overpayment in the first month instead to reduce the mortgage down straight awayFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Oh dear, that does sound stressful re the business.
Ridiculous that you can't reduce the amount borrowed - total case of 'computer says no'. OPing it sounds very sensible!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Morning folks!
Yesterday evening sure was muggy in Leicestershire! I tried out JustEat: I only had the one delivery come through, however I also got 4 deliveries with Uber so that made my earnings decent.
I logged in just before 6pm- 8pm as I decided to end my JE run as it was just so quiet on there and i didn’t want to keep hanging around.
Deliveries were:
5:56pm £3.99 UberEats
6.08pm £4.43 UberEats
6.36pm £9.31 UberEats- double drop to customers
7.21pm £3.40 UberEats
7.25pm £4.45 JustEat (they’ve now added 20p for the wait at the restaurant!)
The last 2 orders (JE & UE) came through at the same time near enough so I picked them both up and delivered after
After the last order I parked up next to the McDonalds and ate my packed dinner (Grilled chicken pesto wrap with salad!). On the heat maps on JustEat that showed as the epicentre of busy-ness however I didn’t then get anything else through. I also went from there into another area which is quite wealthy and trendy where I know a lot of people order food from too, but again nothing pinged through, so I then decided to end my delivery run with JE early. I’m not sure if this impacts me being given future delivery runs or anything but I didn’t want to waste too much time just waiting around. I had earnt the £25 by then and didn’t really want to then just be hanging around and reducing my hourly rate!
I kept both apps on until I got home, just in case i got any more delivery notifications but nothing else came through.
£25.50 ish for under 2 hours work isn’t too bad i think as a little extra earner. I’m down for another JE slot tonight so will see how that goes.....
So far my outgoings have been:
£25 Zego car courier insurance (is hourly but they take £25 a time and it deducts from this)
£6 Post office checks
£5.99 JE thermal bag (its huge!) and waterproof coat
Income so far:
Uber- paid already: ££37.26
Due to pay on Mon: £25.25
JustEat- Due to pay next week: £4.65
With the petrol aspect, I am logging my Milage on a sheet and going to offset it against the tax when i have to do my tax return. I filled up £20 last night so will see how long that lasts me
Only my family know that I’m doing this delivery driving; I’m not keen to tell friends/ wider family as not sure if I’ll keep doing it or just try it out. I’m hoping it becomes something I can do 1 or 2x a week to top up our cash flow for savings/important events/ mortgage overpayments!
