Getting a mortgage and then becoming mortgage-free!

Evening all!
its been a few months since I last posted on my thread which is super naughty considering we’ve just been home shielding!Shortly after my last post lovely girlfriend contacted her GP who was shocked she wasn’t shielding and checked the system and confirmed she should be. So our daily walks were scrapped and we became more isolated than before.
The big brother continued to stay with us until last weekend when I dropped him back to his flat and stayed for the day to do a deep- clean! Having the brother here has been lovely and we think he enjoyed the time here and he seems to have adopted some better habits- drinking more water, better meal choices and exercising on his bike daily
we are both still working and as things go back to a bit more normal nationwide my work is getting busier again. Although we’re back in lockdown in Leicester!
In money news we’ve been getting online food shops from Tesco so our food shops have been massive compared to normal, but we’ve still managed the following:
1) ive managed to save £1585 into savings (including April’s pay)
2) overpaid the mortgage by £446 since mid April
3) cash flowed a treadmill for the house and the patio being laid next week
4) celebrated the girlfriends birthday and bought a games console to help keep us entertained in lockdown!5) both finished paying off our interest free credit for our laser eye surgery meaning we each have £116 extra a month from next month
My workplace have announced a further 5000 job losses this year and I’ll know if impacted in mid August. I’m in a fortunate position- if made redundant I have a good package so it will pay for the career change I was planning. If I’m not made redundant I’m still earning a lot with lower outgoings so can stash some funds aside until the climate is right to make the switch into the travel industry.
I have also applied for another job elsewhere that is a chunky salary rise, and have seen another that I’m hoping to finish applying for tonight. If I’m not made redundant I’m tempted to move elsewhere with a good salary raise and just stash the cash for the next year to build a buffer to pay for the travel franchise and hopefully fund the first few months of no earnings....
So lots has been changing but we’re adapting to things as they change, and are trying to remain positive and work towards the end goals we have, even if they are paused for now due to covid!
Right I’m off to go and plough through some of my favourite threads on here and catch up!!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!6 -
I forgot a key thing! My brain is like a seive- my annual bonus that was due to be paid in April for 2019 wAs paused and wasn’t seeming likely to be paid (with them announcing 5k of job losses!) however they have announced today that we will be paid it on the 15th on payday!
i don’t know how much it is yet however I’m just shocked and overjoyed that it’s being paid in the current climate. That is being stashed in the new career pot as soon as paidFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Hey Kittenkirst! Good to have you back and great news on the bonus! I've just checked back in after a longer break than yours (my OH's had to be super careful too with her health conditions) We moved house just before lockdown and have been in recovery ever since it feels!Choose kind6

Yes, you're totally right. It's just been about getting everyone through this with reasonable mental and physical health - everything else is a bonus. It's been lovely to settle into the new house with OH. The last house I bought with XH so it never really felt like ours. This one is smaller, cosier and definitely more 'us' (if that doesn't sound too cheesy!)Choose kind6

Today has been a truly tough day, we woke up and as we were making our way downstairs the door went. Our neighbour advised one of our boys was in their garden and not in a good way.
Unfortunately little Hugo had passed away. He had no injuries or wounds so the vet assumed it was his heart murmur and therefore it would have been quick for him.
We’re devastated to say the least. I know to some pets are just that, but these two boys are our family- we treat them like our children. He was three so a very young boy. Oscar seems to be okay- he can sense something as he’s not left our side all day- he is usually the one who gallivants off everywhere and comes home 24 hours or a few days later.
We will miss our little Hugo

Oh so sorry to hear that KK, how sad. He has a lovely life with you though and I’m sure he knew how much he was loved.
I would be devastated if it was one of my boys, so make sure you take all the time you need to grieve- they are totally part of your family. XxMortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
