Sorry Michael!
how long left on the build?
So, we’ve been out today after yoga and had a bit of a shop. I bought some new trainers (last pair were bought in 2015) for casual wear, they were on sale but more expensive than I’d normally spend at £44.99.
I then stopped at a little hippy style shop and found they stock my favourite gothic jewellery brand- alchemy gothic- and impulse bought a new crystal bat necklace. It was £20, I had a few of their other jewellery pieces and wear them a lot so am happy that it’ll be a staple in the wardrobe.
We picked up some handmade chocolates for a gift for the hosts of dinner tonight and had breakfast at a local cafe. It was a lovely day but a bit spendy. Luckily it came out of the eating out & clothes budgets so it won’t derail the plans.
Now home with our blankets and a movie on Netflix which is quite funny although gf seems to be having a nap!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
February figures:
Mortgage overpayment: £505.72
Mortgage interest: £217.80
Standard payment: £687.55
Total capital cleared: £975.47!!
Personal savings: £450
Kittens fund: £40
Lifetime ISA: £25
Pension: £415
Not too bad a month....now to plan out March!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
So March has decided to throw a bit of a spanner in the works- last night after a family night at gfs cousins my trusty car wouldn’t start. Not great at 12.10am...we managed to jump start her up and take the 8miles home.
Unbeknownst to us however my front headlights were working on side lights, however I didn’t know this until I saw the flashing blue lights of a police car behind me pulling us over. Queue mild heart attack waiting for the police to come to the car- luckily the officer was incredibly kind and once she’d checked who I was etc advised us about the lights and to get home safely. She said the back lights were all working okay so it sounded like it was related to the car trouble I’d (patchily through almost hyperventilation!) explained about!
Managed to get the car home, tried turning it back in and it was dead as the proverbial dodo. So I’m researching car batteries and how to fit them this afternoon....thank goodness for emergency funds hey!!
I’ve never been stopped by the police before so it was a good two hours laid in bed trying to relax before I could drop off to sleep. Yoga this morning was very much needed (gf took her car!)First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

That sounds like a grotty combination of problems KK. I'm not surprised the yoga was needed.
If you can wangle a Halfords trade card (not sure what the qualifications are these days) or know someone who has one, their batteries are ok and you can see the discount the trade card would give on the website now I believe. Otherwise Car Parts for Less or Eurocarparts (same co. just CP4L is cheaper!) usually always have discount codes available.
I was stopped by the police once - same terrifying feeling! I think I'd be more relaxed about it now - they have weird reasoning sometimes (although not in your case) - the one who stopped me didn't like the fact my rear windscreen was steamed up! (We'd just dropped off friends having all been to a barn dance - some fairly warm bodies in a cold car....)Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

We should have reached the half way point now if all goes to plan, so 5 weeks left. Still seems like a hell of a lot left to do though!
Hope you manage to get car sorted. Have you got breakdown cover with home start? They should be able to diagnose the issue for you. Could be the alternator that's gone rather than battery?Starting Balance August 2016: £170,199.00 | Remortgaged August 2018: £212,000.00
Current Balance (15th February 2019): £209,278.85
Target: Balance below £170,000.00 by August 20230 -
Car all sorted with only £59 spent from the emergency fund.
We managed to YouTube how to jump start the car and get it to a local garage- gf called round before taking it in to confirm the cheapest price for the battery and it was the garage 1mile away so it was quick and easy to repair. Phew!
I have almost managed to get over the whole police pulling over incident to ;D
Small overpayment of £3 from Pinecone paid yesterday. We spent £36 on groceries this week which was our biggest spend in months as we topped up on dishwasher salt, rinse aid and lots of other store cupboard essentials.
This week I have made egg and tuna salads for lunch in the aim to be healthier- we found an adapter for the GoPro microcard so downloaded loads of pics and I looked very slim and healthy in the pics. Served as much needed motivation to do something about this 6.5kg I have gained since September time!
Now we’ve downloaded the pics I am going to order a new months worth of free photos, and do the same for the girlfriend and try to start updating our holiday photo album to keep me entertained in the evening, instead of browsing oasis online or eating alllll the chocolate which had quickly turned into a habit!
Off to update the mfw 2019 thread as I’ve been very lax recently.....First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Phew, finally caught up with your diary
I haven't kept up to reading diaries since we moved house so I've just spent a week catching up with your entries since March 2018!
Well done on haggling down the laser eye surgery cost. I never would have thought to haggle on something like that either so you managed to do really well. How are the eyes now? Enjoying being glasses free?
Sounds like you had a am amazing holiday and did really well to keep it to a good budget.
I'm sorry GF was ill and had to go into hospital, glad she's ok and out now.
Sorry to hear about your brother's benefit issues but I am pleased they got sorted and ended up with him getting more benefits :T Did he manage to save some or did he end up spending quite a bit on his GF?
I'm so glad the car trouble only cost £59. It always worries me when something goes wrong with the car because it can be so costly to fix. Good deal on the bike too
So you said you're going to see Bon Jovi. One of my favourite bands - enjoy!!
Finally, well done on the mahoosive OPs. You've done so well in the last year, and the reduction in mortgage daily interest is amazing. Definitely inspiring!Mortgage: Mar 2018 -£300,000 / Jul 2021 -£255,000 / Oct 2024 -£172,835 (1.27% Interest until Feb 2027)

Car Loan: Oct 2024 -£45,000 (0% APR Interest)0 -
Wow Ch4rley well done for wading through almost a year of my waffles posts!!
Eyes are absolutely fantastic after the surgery- in honesty can’t believe I left it so long to do it. It was amazing to be able to snorkel, paddle board, surf and swim on the Great Barrier Reef and to see without stressing about contact lenses/drying out/eye infections etc :heartpuls:
Brother actually did well and stashed half the lump sum away as his emergency fund, but he did buy a cheap exercise bike to be able to do more activity on the days he struggles to leave the house which is a good idea.
Can’t wait for Bon Jovi, we also have Brighton pride tickets this year for kylie and I have my Download festival tickets already too. It’s going to be a fab music summer!!
I’ve been a bit quiet this month but overpayments have totalled £472.74 this month so really pushing on with our overpayments.First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
