AOL to Talk Talk

Hello everyone.
Can I have some advice please?
I was sent a letter in December saying that as TT now owned AOL, that they would be merging my AOL broadband with my Talk Talk phone account.
It said I didn't need to do anything and that the monthly charge would be £0.00 for 12 months.
I have today received a letter to tell me of changes made to my package after I spoke to a member of their team (I haven't spoken to anyone at Talk Talk about this).
They are now saying that the package is £7.50 a month plus £5.00 a month for an added international calls boost (which i've never asked for, have no use for and wouldn't ever pay for).
They also say that a new 18 month contract will apply to this package, but I don't want to get into a long contract with them.
As i've been with AOL for many years (with no problems at all, which is why i've never bothered to change, as it was cheap too), why am I then expected to sign a new contract, when they are taking over my old one?
*on a side note, I wasn't wanting to start a new contract with anyone for broadband, as when I cancel the sky package that I use, that's in my ex's name, I was then going to get tv, phone and broadband with sky in my name.
Do I have to accept this new contract with them if I don't want to lose my broadband in the mean time?
Can I have some advice please?

No you don't have to accept it, you can give your 30 days notice and leave without penalty. That's plenty of time to organise your switch-which will start you on a new min term contract.
Edit: however you may be out of time if you were notified in December and the cut off date was 30 days. That's potentially 2 months ago.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
AOL has been TT for a very long time (2006) ish... So not exactly taking it over, just changing the name on the bill.

Thank you for the replies.
It was only yesterday when I got the letter saying about a new 18 month contract so I will cancel it then.
I want to just keep things as they are now, until I decide what the best bundle will be.0 -
Sounds like you have already accepted the new contract based on your telephone conversation. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

As above and how can you keep things as they are if you cancel .

Saying hello on the phone seems to sign you up for 18 months with TT.0
