Morning Frugal Friends,
Not THE most industrious couple of days as I went down with mr f's lergy on Tuesday night. Only a cold, but whereas he seems to have the constitution of an ox....& a big Oxxy one at that, it's hit me harder. I start the mornings ok, then wilt as the day progresses. I've just commenced today's slow wilt, & intend to spend the afternoon on my family history project & reading. Not a write-off on the money-saving front though, as there have been a few bits this morning:
*Postie brought my £5 Sainsbury's gift card to make amends for the £1.30 overcharge on Sun.
*Did 1 Annoying Thing off my list, which kind of led to a whole load of money saving. The Annoying Thing was lining the salad drawer in the fridge with fresh newspaper. I find stuff lasts longer if I do this. Not sure what the science is, but probably that it absorbs some of the moisture that might lead to it spoiling. Have been meaning to do this since before Christmas. I have a newspaper stash in cupboard all the time & the job takes all of 2 mins. Yet I kept on not doing it even though it was annoying me to see that grotty piece of paper in there. That's what my Annoying Things lists are all about. The mostly tiny tasks which we walk past time & time again because we cba!
*Anyway......this led to a full blitz of the fridge. Way too much food in there hanging around doing nothing. We started a new weight-loss plan on Mon, so we've shopped & meal-planned slightly differently, leading to a bit of a surplus. Emptied fridge & cleaned it (Stardrops & washable microfibre cloth). Assessed every item before it went back in & assigned it to a meal or packed lunch. Unassigned items have either been frozen (gravy, stock, fresh ginger, soup, red peppers) or will be incorporated into next week's meal plans.
*Altered tonight's meal to use up last of the rubber chicken, 1 leek, a small portion of stock, half a savoy cabbage & some limp celery (am making chicken & leek supreme). Excess melon has been cubed for dessert & I've put pears out so that they get eaten. 2 lonely-looking turkey rashers gone in mr f's sandwich for tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Leftover little tub of yesterday's salad for lunch, & will also use last of the cranberry & apple chutney I made for Christmas.
*Another big egg box added to stash ready for chitting seed potatoes.
*Mascara tube went in a mug of hot water first thing so I could get another use out of it. There is always lots left, it just goes too dry to apply properly. Haven't bothered with any other make-up, so there's a funny little saving. I'm so snotty, that it would all come off anyway with all the nose blowing! Was going to ask mr f to pick up some tissues today but would prefer an NSD & we have plenty of loo roll......so yes, how classy do I look?!
Bob - Hope you can go home today. Agree re morphine. I remember being put on it years ago when I had to go in for a big gynae op. I stuck it for half a day, but felt so sick & dizzy, I asked to be unhooked from the machine & they gave me something strong & codiene-based instead. You don't do things by half do you? Take care x

Just paid £900 off CC1 and £100 off CC2. I reckon it may be possible to clear CC1 next month! That will be our first real milestone in debt busting.

How weird that you and Foxgloves both had the same reactions. I must admit when I heard they wanted me to have it I was a bit scared as it's basically medical heroin isn't it. Anyway hopefully now just one of life's many experiences." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

I have done my finances for this month and if I really make sure we tighten our belts things are doable. I just feel so down about getting myself into such a rubbish situation and not being able to do things with my children. I know children don't require days out that cost but it's so hard when you see other people plastering things over FB. Maybe it's a little selfish from my side. I am 30 this year with 3 gorgeous children but feel so down about life and how I have got myself into such a mess.

Hi There,
Don't worry about facebook. I used to feel exactly the same as you. My advice is to ignore everything on facebook, it's just artificially created to make people look like they have perfect lives when they are probably all up to their eyeballs in debt...
