I have spoken to AA customer services again and they say my booking is still active, they can see it on their screen but don't understand why I can't access the booking online anymore.
They advised to try again at a later time in case there was a issue with their website.
I have since tried again and could access the booking and all seems in order.
So it seems to be sorted now, but I still don't see how the refund came about from one day to the next with no communication at all, after they were so adamant it couldn't possibly be done without canceling the ticket.
Very strange0
