This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

  • Morning all

There is nothing like a good nights sleep and that's exactly what I've had, nothing like.
I was in bed by 10, asleep by 10:30, coughing fit at 11:15, still wide awake by 11:45, so I gave up & got up. I've unloaded the DW, and swapped the washing on the maiden.

I met up with DD1, her house purchase has just fallen through, the vendor sold the house privately over the weekend, so DD has lost a lot of money, she has decided to move into rented for 6 months as the people buying her house are a young couple with small children who are currently in a flat without a garden and she doesn't want to let them down.

There is a strong smell of cigarette smoke surrounding me, so I will turn out the lights, light a candle and spend a while seeing if someone is trying to contact me.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Heck Hester,

Thank goodness the thread is here. Another nightmare. This time I was about to be strangled. This time I got as far as passing out before I woke in a sweat.

Think I'm going to have to go downstairs for a bit.

If someone contacts you. Feel free to mention my dreams. Maybe they can tell you why they won't leave me alone.

Hope you get some rest if not sleep.

    Morning everyone

HH - Thanks for starting us off - hope you did get back to bed and got some sleep x

Judi - Hope you were able to settle back to bed and get some restful sleep without any nightmares x

I don't know what happened to my sleep last night, once we'd had dinner and coffees/teas afterwards - I went and got changed into my pj's etc came downstairs to watch tv/use pc, and started watching programme that was on at 8pm and was then going to watch something on at 9pm - don't remember the ending of the 8pm programme and certainly didn't see the 9pm one - but woke on the sofa at 11.10pm with everyone else already in bed - so I went to bed and then struggled to sleep.

Still dark, but dry underfoot, doesn't look like we've had a frost either sounds like the wind might have died down a bit.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was gammon, HM potato wedges, peas, egg and parsley sauce. Was a bit of a nightmare - as the gammon was a joint as I couldn't get gammon steaks, so got it cooking as soon as I came in from work but at 6pm it was nowhere near cooked, so sliced it and then zapped it in the micro - not ideal but had no real choice as DH didn't want to be eating too late due to his stupid early start this morning. Anyway that resolved under cooked gammon, it had lovely flavour but the actual meat was a bit fatty - so won't be purchasing those sorts of joints from there anymore. Dinner tonight is chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce - I got up at 2am remembering that I forgotten to get the chicken out to defrost - so that's now defrosting. I'll be serving it with mash, carrots, broc and LO cauli/broc cheese.

Work yesterday wasn't as busy - but as there wasn't many staff we were steady. Only working until lunchtime today and doing a different job, so will be left to my own devices to get on with it.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Oh HESTER and JUDI what traumatic nights you've had. I'm a poor sleeper but at least I don't have nightmares or people from the other side visiting me. Hope you both got some rest. I've done rather well recently, managing to stay in bed until 6.00. I thought it was the new tablets knocking me out but, alas, they didn't knock me out last night and I was wide awake at 4.00.

All seems calm outside, apart from evidence of overnight rain, and a nice day is forecast for a change.

It's my monthly night out with the girlies (old codgers) tonight. Looking forward to a nice meal and a good old gossip, helped along by mucho vino. Before I can escape though, we have the girls and all the Wednesday running around - school pick ups, then to ballet, jazz dancing and Rainbows. Tea will be staggered as they each descend. Being lazy today and serving up scampi and chips as they each arrive. I'll get the two youngest ready for bed before I go, leaving Mr TA reading the bedtime stories! He insisted he didn't mind when I offered to stay in.

I rang the hairdressers yesterday morning for an appt for a much needed trim and she'd just had a cancellation for 2.00. My lucky day! I feel much tidier now.

I have decided we have too much "stuff" which never sees the light of day and, once we are back home after Mr TA's treatment in Liverpool, I am going to make a start clearing it. I am not exactly brave enough to KonMarie but a lot must go. When anything happens to us it would be a nightmare for DS and DD sifting through it all. The charity shops will have a field day!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. CAMELOT I so hope circumstances change for you. It's so sad. Take care xx

  • Hello, I have slept a little better but still tired and this is on leave from work, had hoped for better, less anxiety-ridden sleep but that was in vain. Hope those plagued by nightmares and insomnia are ok. I have occasional nightmares, not often but when I do, they are usually end of the world nightmares and they tend to simply carry on if I wake and go back to sleep so I,usually give in and get up.

Am going out to lunch with a friend later, no fixed plans otherwise, more washing I suppose. How can a family of 3 create so much washing...

I am cold, may cave in and put heating on soonish. Seems a bit indulgent as I am the only one up, DH AND DS will sleep for a while yet.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All

Sorry you can't sleep HH and Judi, I woke up at 5.30 and thought I would get up, next thing the alarm was going at 6.30. I always feel a little shattered then as the alarm gives me a fright!

Met with a friend/colleague after work yesterday and caught up with all the gossip (she loves gossip!). We had something to eat so no tea needed at home.

Plan to go for a swim after work then must have a clean and tidy as have friends coming for supper on Friday. Washing on airer, DW not ready for a load yet.

HH - That's a despicable thing to do.

    Enjoy Wednesday. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Cold, bright and clear here, dogs walked so enjoying first cup of tea. I like the reduced sugar version of Lift lemon tea, it disappeared off all shelves for a while but managed to pick some up last week.

Did manage to get out yesterday and picked up a few new bits for my start back to work, mostly from the sales and also had some WS vouchers. The only thing couldn't find was shoes but have seen some nice ones in an online sale so might send off for them

This morning have a stock shop delivery coming, also need to get out for dog food and bird seed so it's all been spending the last couple of days :( always that way beginning of the month but after today my purse will be firmly shut for a while!

Take care everyone, esp those who had such a rough night x
