I think you're better off calling some local ariel people then really. Could it just have been due to the bad weather and it has been blown off course a bit? As if your dish /boxes are that old sky won't fix them for free. You could be looking at £65 call out fee plus fixes to whatever is wrong as you own all the equipment not sky. You're just paying for the subscription for the channels, when you first joined you might have had a deal for free installation/ boxes but if they break it is on you to replace unfortunately. I don't bother with that insurance, as if mine break I know the risks and think a new box or getting a local guy in would be cheaper than paying the insurance each year.

Do you have hd boxes as well if it is that old? Maybe it is worth doing the cancel call and seeing if you can haggle some new boxes out of them, which would probably mean a dish upgrade too if I remember right, which might still work out cheaper than just fixing what you have then another box failing later and having to do this again. That or get the ariel fixed by a local company, and look at some freesat boxes instead, you can still record with some of these.

I was under the impression that the £65 call out covered the whole visit including what it takes to fix the equipment?

If so , waiting is better than a TV aerial type company , i would have though because £65 isnt a lot of cash , really

Maybe fixing it yourself would be the fastest option. How's your dish looking? How are the connections into your Sky box? any joins in between the two that you can check? Can you reach your dish?

Meanwhile, can you not watch the Xbox's Sky Go via the tv screen ?

Cant see why you would want to wait 2 weeks rather than have it fixed next day?
Its not going to be the boxes at fault simple dish problem, at worst LNB replacement or moving the dish location, but as we have just had high winds probably 10 minutes to realign.

Point is £65 is not a lot of dough , and where i live at least , call out alone is going to be near that figure

Money saving site , yeah :D

I think the OP was mainly concerned with the two-week wait for Sky to arrange a visit. He sounds astute enough to have already blagged it for free, but was mistaken in his belief that Sky have in any way breached their contract.

He threatens to cancel, but if he's still in the minimum term he won't be able to regardless of having to wait two weeks for service restoration.

If he blagged a freebie, then he would have probably already threatened to leave.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Then don't call one with a "call out fee" cost to move, realign or replace an lnb especially if the dish is not on the chimney or over three stories should be the same or less than the sky quote.

Well, I can. I don't recall the last time I switched the TV on. I think it was about two years ago. Don't you worry about your addiction?

Anyway, try searching for information about how to fix it. It might be a simple DIY job.

I wouldn't trust any of the information on the satcure .co.uk site linked there, very out of date. Also seem to employ very dubious business practices.

Guy who wrote that probably doesn't even watch Sky TV any more let alone know how to fix it.
