Roll it back to version 28, it works for me.

Some sites i used are picture intensive, old versions had a box you ticked to prevent it loading the images. They removed that so i rolled back and stopped updating.

Java and Java script are two completely different things even though they say Java, Java script is run by your browser and has nothing to do with Oracle Java.

What OS are you using, Vista or XP ?

If it's the latter then upgrade the OS to something supported.

I have Vista, Fightsback. I think I'm going to persevere with FF (I may try the Beta version as suggested, or even Opera).
In any event I see that Microsoft support for Vista ceases next year. That may be the time to invest in a new computer. The one I have (a Dell) works OK for my (Albeit) simple needs, but it does have a loose ethernet connection (became unsoldered) so I have to use a USB/Ethernet adaptor to access the Internet. Doing this I feel has restricted some of my computers functionality, so in a year I'll be thinking about buying a new computer, either another Dell or a Lenovo.
Thank you for the heads-up about Java fellow members. At times like this my naivete about computers is very evident.
  • If you are stuck with Vista then you may want to look at some kind of ad blocker or script blocker for Firefox. Slow web pages are often caused by advertising or badly implemented scripts. Try noscript.net (seems I'm not allowed to post a link to it!) for example. It blocks everything by default which has its disadvantages as you have to manually enable the stuff you think you might need, but it should make the web faster - and more secure - for you.

No need to post links, goto firefox - tools - addons search for addons. Adblock plus and Noscript simple really

I used to use FF on Win7 and found it incredibly laggy, stupid numbers of script not responding errors. Tried everything under the sun to tweak my netbook to work better ...

Replaced my netbook with a Chromebook - love it. No script errors, no lagging, boots up in a couple of seconds.

If you're not liking Firefox, you could try Opera.

    http://www.opera.com/

    It's Chrome-like.

Or if you're feeling adventurous, you could try Yandex browser.

Thanks abibee, I switched to Opera, I'm finding it infinitely better than FF.

I always think of Opera as the Marmite browser -- you either love it or hate it!

I've had problems with FF this last week. Crashing usually when I first start laptop, different sites as well. I just send report restart and continue with no more problems.

I've been using Opera for a couple of days now and, fingers crossed, no crashes so far. In general, it just seems a lot more reliable.
With FF I was getting crashes and general unresponsiveness the week or so I used it. I feel like I'm well rid of it.
