Car Hire in Malaga MARBESOL OR MOBL'!!!!

Options
Another trick, during a recent hire from them all went well till we got off the shuttle at the Depot to pick up the car. Please Note we have hired approximately 100 cars in Spain over the last 20+ years. Mostly in Malaga and have found all hire the other hire companies to be fine and fair.
After an eternity (not sure if they had ever let a car out before) and much paperwork they had the payment for the hire and the fuel. We had full Insurance with the booking but the trained counter Monkey said no good it had to be their Insurance else a deposit off €800 needed to be held. We agreed to the Excess Deposit (it was not held but taken) They then went on to say that there would be no cover for breakdown. We queried this to see if they expected the car to breakdown but this went over their heads. As we were only going local we were happy to push back if needed.
We eventually got the keys to the car and the paperwork which showed NO damage we queried and were told it was a newly acquired car and there was NO damage. We got bags and headed out to the gloom, after opening the car up and placing in of bags etc I looked over the car. There were dents and scratches around the car non major but we wanted them marking up on the paperwork to be safe. We returned to the Counter Monkey and were sent back with one of the yard lads who agreed and duly marked up the blemishes, he also said that the boot may not open and the front seat not adjust as these were common faults with this model of car! We checked the boot again and all ok which was more than could be said of the front seat as this was stuck so far forward we assume Ronnie Corbett had it last. Whilst the seat was a pain it was late and we agreed to go.
In the morning I realised I had forgotten to look at the wheels and tyres on the car so we went to it and sure enough there were scuffs and one nasty dink, more importantly the tyre had a cut through to the reinforcing of the side wall on the front wheel. We took the car STRAIGHT back. Once there (it was busy) they agreed to view and get two other operatives to view and only after us saying it was dangerous they agreed to swap.
Again we eventually got the keys to the replacement car and the paperwork which showed NO damage we queried and were told it was another newly acquired car and there was NO damage. We went out to the yard to view, after opening the car up and placing in of bags etc I looked over the car. There were dents and scratches around the car non major but we wanted them marking up on the paperwork to be safe. We returned to the Counter Monkey and were sent back with one of the yard lads who agreed and duly marked up the blemishes again! he even took photos of the car on an ipad thingy He gave up with the marking of the contract and told us all was ok. We duly moved on our way to enjoy our Holiday.
After the week and an enjoyable stay we returned the car to the depot without any incident of problem. A chippy young Lady went round the car and with no sign of any snags, she then looked at the contract again and read the No Additional insurance note that was put on the original contract that was attached. She then went around the car faster than Usain Bolt and ran back shouting You owe €140 now pay cash or it will be deducted from the "held" deposit. We argued and argued with them that we had not damaged the car (and we had not) They would not listen, they would not get a manager, they would not give full names, they would not produce the photo's they had taken. I requested information on the costing of the damage and showed them the damage was marked on our copy of the contract. I refused to authorise the deduction but they did it anyway.
It was a complete and utterly well scripted operation.
I thought the Bandits were all in England these days but no there are some alive and kicking in Spain
Moral of story? KEEP WELL AWAY from this bunch of rouges and advise all you can to avoid them like the dose they are.

  • The same has just happened to me.
No interest with the marks I spotted, but looked like someone out of CSI when I took it back.
The damage that they found, I had been pointed out to them when I collected the car.
Did you manage to get any money back?
