Cannot read files on dvd

Options
Hi
My DVD ROM drive is working fine apart from one DVD which I received recently. It will not open and
the message I get is 'Your Internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened'
There is then a link which says Why can't these files be opened. It takes me to a Microsoft page for Windows 10 ( which is OK as I have w10) BUT there is no info on the page to solve this
As this is the only PC and DVD ROM drive I have I cannot try it on another machine
I have looked at my internet security and cannot see what needs to change
Does anyone have any ideas how I should proceed?
Thanks in advance

    What's on the DVD?
If it's music or movie content, the chances are it's got DRM (digital rights management) that stops it working in a PC.

Decades ago Sony Entertainment released a music CD (I forget which one), which had a crude DRM, basically errors on the disk that caused a PC CD drive to go into a constant loop, effectively locking the CD in the drive bay and rendering the drive useless.

These days DRM is much more sophisticated, to the point where it can take over your PC and demote your admin account, preventing you installing software that could be used to copy CD/DVDs.

It sounds like your PC might be set to "autoplay" content from DVDs, and that the autoplay action is blocked. Can you browse the DVD contents in Windows Explorer?

That's not DRM; that's malware! Sony were criminally liable for installing malicious rootkits on people's machines.

You can goto a museum and see them, funny round shiny things, we used them for coasters when i were younger... eee... i remember...

They used to shatter when you shot them with an air rifle. More fun that watching the drivel they used to put on them.

Dilly, what is on the DVD? Is it legit and not something trying to install something you do not want?

    Hi
    Thanks for the replies
The files are PDF's. They are copies of recipes ( I know how boring ;-) ) They were copied/ scanned by my friend and sent to me. She tested them on her pc before sending and so I'm assuming its me rather than her
When I go File Explorer I cannot see what the files inside the folder are
I did have a problem with the DVD Drive a while back, when I set everything back to Factory settings. But did manage to resolve the issue and I can run other dvd's including installing Microsoft 2013

Oh and I forgot to say that I have up graded my Adobe reader to version 11, which is the latest I understand
  • Wonder if the DVD was not finalised and the OP's PC cannot read open data discs or rather cannot read the type written by the other PC?

See if you can copy/paste the folder containing the PDFs to your desktop and then try reading them.

It seems to say that I can add to the disc, but it will overtype the info already on the disc. Which is rather strange, as I am also being told on the properties that there is 0kb of information
