Car stolen and then recovered

Hi,

If a car is stolen, recovered and repaired, will this be logged anywhere? The repairs will include changing the locks, and some respraying to fix some scratches.

Many thanks in advance

The OP from the posters thread he started yesterday
So i'm having to look into something for my sister in law.

October 24th she had her Audi TT stolen from her property during the night. It turned out they gained access to the property via an unsecured window. From there they got the car key and garage key from the kitchen and left with the car. The garage and house each have a separate alarm, both were not switched on by her. The police confirmed to her that there was no forced entry and the window must have been left open.

Car was recovered latter that day, though the thieves ran off after a brief car chase. Since then she has not see her car. The police / forensics did not release her car till end of November; after a fair bit of me calling them twice a day. They released it to a garage that Hastings said it should go to.

I assume it's the same stolen car.

It wasn't my car, it was my sister in laws. A nice Audi TT. She sadly left a window open and they came in took the keys to the garage and drove of. She informed the police who gave her a number and then she informed her insurance company who are handling it for her?

    Thanks again

Well there's your answer. The police and insurance company will have logged it.

I meant if she choose to sell the car, would it appear on a vehicle history check??

Hastings passed it on to Albany Assistance so she is assuming Hastings?

    Thanks,

If she sells it then she should let the potential buyer know that its been stolen/recovered and repaired, to save any grief when/if the new owner finds out.

If they HPI the car then it may well show up as S/R.

Try and get them to write it off and walk away with cash to buy another non-stolen and recovered car, no telling how the thieves drove it, doubt they would of waited for it to warm up before ragging the bum off it and cool down to save turbo wear !

The repairs will not show up on HPI checks and the like unless the car is written off by the insurance company and then someones else repairs it - (so cat C or Cat D)

If the insurance (or existing owner) simply repair the car, it will not show up on HPI checks etc

I'm not sure they would write it off. As far as she is aware there were only some scratches on the car? However she is yet to see any engineers report which I thought she would have been entitled to see before any repairs were carried out. In all honesty she has been given very little if no information by hastings or albany. Both say she should speak to the other one. Her insurance company has also never confirmed in writing if her claim is successful or not.
