hastings and albany assistance

So i'm having to look into something for my sister in law.

October 24th she had her Audi TT stolen from her property during the night. It turned out they gained access to the property via an unsecured window. From there they got the car key and garage key from the kitchen and left with the car. The garage and house each have a separate alarm, both were not switched on by her. The police confirmed to her that there was no forced entry and the window must have been left open.

Car was recovered latter that day, though the thieves ran off after a brief car chase. Since then she has not see her car. The police / forensics did not release her car till end of November; after a fair bit of me calling them twice a day. They released it to a garage that Hastings said it should go to. I should note that my sister in law is not good with dealing with much of anything with regards to common sense. She was fobbed off by hastings till after Christmas when it appears that Albany have gotten involved. She says she must have agreed to it, but cannot really recall.

After researching Albany (who won't return her calls) it appears that they normally deal in not at fault claims and make there money from fees etc charged to the at fault insurance company. I understand that they may have paid Hastings to buy the details.

My confusion is, if there was no other party involved, who would Albany bill for the work that needs to be carried out to the car?

My sister in law also has had no written confirmation from Hastings that they would pay for the repairs to the car.

Due to the details of the theft, window open, alarms not on, I originally would have been amazed if any insurance company would pay out.

You need to take a look at her policy and see the conditions and exclusions of theft claims.

Bit off though that the date of the loss was 24th October and they havent paid out or authorisedthe repairs.

Once the 'accident management company' realise they can't make money out of a third party they won't want to know.

We advised one we didn't need any help from them, or their expensive hire car and the insurance company really didn't know what to do to handle a claim in such circumstances!

Back to Hastings with a formal complaint.
