How to sell an old car?
Hello
I have an old Fiat Doblo (2005, 70,000 miles) which is now surplus to requirements. It's not in the best of nick (a few scratches, at least one dent and 2 temperamental doors...among other minor imperfections) but it is running and there is 8 months MOT left on it. Not looking a lot for it (as, lets face it, it's a 10 year old Fiat...and an ugly Fiat at that!). I've never sold a car privately and my location and working hours makes having people call to kick the tyres a bit awkward. I feel like the trade won't want it as it's not an attractive proposition to sell on. Are there any other options before I contact webuyanycar.com? Is it worth testing the water on Gumtree? Selling for parts? Or should I just tie it to the gate outside my local scrapyard?

Put it on eBay with good pictures, an honest advertisement listing any faults it has, and a start price of the minimum you'll accept. Job done.0

Just sold an old Corsa on gumtree , had to drop our ambitious price a couple of times but we weren't really expecting to get what we asked first time. It was much as you described old but with MOT and a few miles left in it. Don't know if you don't try.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I'm in the same position as the OP so was interested to read the advice given. If choosing to sell on Gumtree (never used it before to buy or sell) don't you end up with the same situation of not being available when people want to come to see the car?
Also what is the general advice for accepting payment if selling privately as I have to admit I have a trusting nature but I can see myself being ripped off by someone more 'streetwise'.No. 5 in the 'Save 12k for 2021' thread.

£14 doesn't seem like a rip off to me for classifieds. Autotrader was about 3x that last time I lookedRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

I agree except I would start bidding at £1. Worked for me both times I did this and the low starting bid gets loads of views and consequently a good sales price0 -
Any thoughts about putting it in a car auction? I've just remembered that there is a large one near me but know nothing about them.0

Check the sellers fees and the fact that mostly traders go to auctions it probably wont make much. Easiest route is drive it to the local scrap yard for £50 or whatever, or sell it privately
Your better off putting up a 30 day classified advert on ebay for £14.99 for a realistic figure.0 -
I've always had great success selling cars by just sticking them in the front driveway with a For Sale sign and basic details in the windows.0
